What is the widest tire I can fit on a 17x9 rim for the rear of the Sport.I have 255 40 17's on there now.I know I may have to remove the quads.

275/40-17. May not be the biggest, but I know they fit nicely.

lol never heard of stretching tires?  run a 215 30 r 17...

think about it, yes they will not hold air, but they clear the fenders when its laying flat on the ground with like 20 degrees camber.  :P just playin, thats bippu style from puppiesan.  show car stuff although people drive them on the street like that.

Don't worry about too big.  I had the 275/40/17 Nitto Drags as well and I think you could even go taller if you wanted without looking bad...  No, you can keep the quads with a TC, Mark VII and SN setup (i forget the width of a sport rear)...?  easy 1.5" clearance...

Vinnie, I think you can probably go wider, but 275's a good size.

If you want really wide, you can probably fit 315's with the right wheel (and probably pulling the quads).

While on the subject of widest. I have been thinking of going with 17x10-1/2 with 325/45-17 for the rears and 17x9 with 255/40-17 for the fronts. Since I am swaping the TC rear axle for a 9 inch I can custom order any width housing I want. Is it possible to get those 325s to fit in the fenderwell without having to put mini tubs in?

These are some big tires ( almost truck tires Vinnie) but I need all the tire I can get.

I really don't want the tire to be real tall.I want the low profiles like I have now.I never cared for a really tall tire.

I have 245's on the front.I want more in the back. With the 255's I have,I can break those loose really easy. With the new heads and cam going on in a few days,I'm HOPING to see about 35-40 horsepower, and more torque.I really don't want my tires very much taller, but an extra inch in width would be nice.

Yeah, I heard of a couple guys doing that, but if you ask me, a 315 on a 9" wheel is gonna look kinda goofy

The reason I posted this was to show you that going to a 275x35-17 would give you a 1.2in increase in width without any significant change in tire heigth.

only problem with that is you show nearly 10" change in height

That was a misprint. There's no way it can be 14.7 inches when my wheels are 17 inches.
