Title: Shocks & struts...who has what
Post by: Red_LX on January 14, 2008, 08:12:02 PM
Just wondering who has aftermarket (or swapped OE) struts & shocks on their cars, and if so what brand, etc, and how do you like them?

I'm thinking about pitching my PRC struts & shocks once and for all, the strut mount bushings are squeaking like crazy anymore and driving me nuts.

I have some of Chuck's shock brackets, so I've been looking at 87-93 Stang Tokicos and KYB's....I have to admit, the price of a set of KYB GR-2's is tempting, but I have to wonder how good they are. Even the AGX's are pretty cheap for adjustable shocks & struts.

My car is also lowered so I'm curious how that will affect things...

Nothing too fancy for me...monroe sensa-trac's on all 4 corners along with KYB's for the quad shocks...very good ride for the street which is the main purpose for me.

Have Sensa-Tracs myself and I like them. Nice ride but also firm at the same time.

Stock and stock for now was thinking of getting KYB shocks and struts and some ford racing springs.

I have the KYB's front and rear w/Eibach lowering springs.  Ride is firm, not harsh.  An easy intall.  I am pleased with the combination.

Generally, KYB's are junk, but feel firm when you replace 20 year old stocks and struts.

A friend of mine used KYB GR2's in his 90 Trans Am. He swapped to some Bilsteins, and it was a night and day difference.

Tokico's are supposed to be a little bit more firm than stock.

I have Koni reds for TC's. I have them on a 88TC. I have them adjusted to only 2 turns and the ride is ok and hadled great. I then went to front coilovers with the kitw/springs from MM and tubular lower control arms up front. Ride is a little more frim with the same shock settings. Handles even better. I will be going to coilovers in the back also. However I think I will go with the double actions konis out back and then up front. The coilover set-up is worth every penny. You do have to go to the CC plates with the coilover set-up.

Eh, I dunno about laying out the cash for coilovers right now, maybe down the road a bit.

I bought the coilover kit but it did not work with my t-bird struts so I had to hit the junk yard and get mustang strut hardware but atleast I got to run the poly mounts very firm ride

for my cougar i am using lakewood drag struts and shocks and poly-urathane bushings all around. that setup is awesome.
shock are 50/50 and struts are 70/30.

Koni DA's and Griggs Coil overs up front and Koni SA's and Griggs coil overs in the rear.

Ran the KYB's and I thought they were junk.  Tokico Illuminas or D-Specs would be a great option and not break the bank.  Just remember to put some good springs in it as well.
