Title: New injectors waste of money?
Post by: thunderjet302 on January 07, 2008, 07:00:10 PM
So I have been considering getting new 19lb/hr injectors for my 5.0 since the stock ones are of unknow mileage. They run fine and according to the plugs everything looks great. It runs a bit rich at idle but that's because of using the cam I have with SD. I got these injectors from my buddy who's shop I used to swap the in the HO. They were from a good running 89 Mark VII that he parted out but he can't remember the mileage it had. The only pre check we used for them was to make sure that the screen at the end and the tip weren't clogged before we used 'em. The car runs fine and will hit 60 mph in under ~6.8 seconds with the py stock HO intake, TB, and 2.25" cat back holding the other mods back. Since I'll be pulling the stock HO intake an TB to swap to a GT40 intake and 65mm TB soon I was wondering if I would see any benefit in switching out the used HO injectors for brand new FMS 19 lb/hr injectors? On the other hand would I just be wasting $200 replacing parts that are still good? Thanks for any input :D

I don't see the need to replace them.

i dont think i've ever seen an injector go back. o-rings can leak. injectors can clog, but thats not common. i havent ever seen an injector physically break internally. so going from one 19lb set to another sounds kind of pointless if nothings broke.

Not worth the time or effort, swap in a set of 24s instead.
Sounds like your at the limits of the 19s anyway.

sorry to hyjack the thread, but how can you tell if an injector is hung open or whatever its called?

on topic: I wouldn't change them unless i felt i REALLY NEEDED TO.  i mean if you feel that it'd do some good and not just b/c you dont know how old they are i say do it.  i've seen injectors come off 200,000mi cars that were perfect aside from carbon build up and other regular aging.  infact i think the guy cleaned them up and reused them in another car and worked just fine.

Well that might be a problem since the car is running speed density ;)
