...make the biggest difference.
5 speed owners might relate to this one. I've been having the nagging problem of my floor mat sliding forward and bunching up under the clutch pedal. Every time I got in the car and occasionally when driving I'd have to slide my mat back. It's been annoying as hell! So I finnaly decided to do something about it.
I drilled a hole in the floor pan. There is an acces hole in the sub frame at exactly the right spot. I cut a 2"X2" piece of steel strap and welded a stud on it and bolted it down to the floor. I drilled the mat for the stud and ran a nut with a fender washer down on it. No more moving mat... YEAH!

The next thing will only apply to guys with fiberglass hoods. My hood lifters finnaly wore out and I've been propping the hood up with a bubble level (It was about the right length). I got to thinking that the hood lifters were kind of a pain to work around anyway and they didn't allow the hood to be raised very high so I decided to go back to the good ole prop rod. I thought about buying one but when I saw the usual $30 dollar price tag I figured I could do just as well at the junk yard. After looking around a bit I settled on the Dodge Neon rod. It's bolt on, very long and fairly straight (and only 5 bucks!). I got it home and bent it as required to lay on the radiator core support as well as prop the hood correctly. I only had to cut about 5 inches off the end of it and the bend at the end sits right inside the hood pin cup. It raised the hood much higher and at a far greater angle than before. Now there is actually room to work under the hood with out having to go through contortions to get around the hood lifters... and it looks factory.

The hood lifters only raised the hood about half this much.

Yep,the little things make all the difference.I say that all the time.As far as the floor mats,I just put a couple of strips of Velcro on the back of my floor mats and that keeps them in place.Good tips,Dog.
I thought about goining the velcro route but I was bored at work. lol...
I had a similar problem with my floormat. It was my first time ever going down the dragstrip and the gas pedal got stuck under the floormat. UH OH. I didnt REALLY mean to powershift the whole way :P.
I had the same problem with the mat... It made my gas pedal stick to the floor when I reved it to show my dad my new duals.... problem is still there, but the car is sold so I dont car now... lol
Cool, nice mods and great tips.
About the floormats...years ago I bought some aftermarket mats for one of my cars and they came with a plastic hook system that really worked well. There was a peg that simply screwed into the carpet, and a matching hole in the mat with a plastic surround. Place hole over peg, push down, hear "snap", mat is locked. I can't remember the technical name for the system but I'm sure it's available in the aftermarket or maybe at places that make/sell floormats on the web. Essentially it's the plastic version of what Dogcharmer did but with no drilling through the floorboard required. ;)
pepboys has that eric
why wouldn't you make a bracket to go oveer the bolt for the seat? just and Idea....
i saw the same thing in a commercial eric, but I'm with 1wld, i know the seat covers it, but since this is for the lil things type of thread, a lil thing that you could do is make it more appealing and match the interior.
But I like drilling holes in things:hick:
It's not noticable at all because like you said "the seat covers it". You'd have to be looking for it to see it at all so it doesn't bother me. Otherwise I'd probably paint it black or find some black hardware. But that wouldn't have shown up as good in the picture, lol.
Hey Dog, That is one nice looking 86 you got there !
What color is that ?
I like like it, I like it alot !
Thanks I'm glad you like it, yours is pretty darn sweet too! I'm not sure what the technical Ford color is called, I think it's a charcoal metallic (It's definitely metallic). The previous owner had it repainted but it is the factory color (the door jambs, engine compartment and everything match). I bought the car from a guy(Johns331) selling it in the classifieds on this site close to 2 years ago.
4 eyes 4 ever! LOL...
I agree. Car looks fantastic. Like the color allot. Good post as well.
4 eyes rule :burnout:
