Title: Woo Hoo! Free tools!
Post by: P71 on January 02, 2008, 07:24:00 PM
So for Christmas the g/f got me a NIIIIICE Craftsman toolbox, you know one of those giant red ones. It has the quiet-glide drawers and all that... anyways...
I got it all set up and I didn't want to hurt it with my nasty, greasy, old tools, so I went to Sears to grab some drawer liners. I brought a $5 off coupon from their website. Sooo, free liners!
The coupon is for $5 off any tool (or home and garden) purchase of $5 or more, from now until 1/22/08. It's right on the Sears website and in most newspaper.
I'm the last person in the world to post this kind of stuff, but it's on Sears website and I literally just used the thing. I'll post pics of my receipt if you need proof ;)
So, yeah, I'll be going there everyday (for 1 socket) for the next few weeks...
;)

coupon says one coupon per "purchase". so technically you could walk up to the counter with 5 sockets, and ask for 5 separate transactions.

, too bad the only thing I really want right now is a good sawzall and I don't really want to lay out that kind of money at the moment.
Although I may check out air chisels as well...

So does this mean you can walk in and pick up ONLY a $5 socket, go pay for it and get $5 off? Or do you have to buy something else AND a $5 socket to get the $5 off?
Title: Woo Hoo! Free tools!
Post by: P71 on January 03, 2008, 03:14:39 PM
"Any purchase of $5 or more" and then the fine print says "before taxes".
So yes, you can grab a $5.09 socket, and only pay 9c plus taxes.

I just got back from my Sears...I made about 5 or 6 separate little purchases.
Used the same printout each time - no problem at all. The last purchase I was making was rung up by a different associate, who wanted to take the coupon...I said, "that's fine - I've got 9 more printed out in my pocket." (Which I had just in case they did want to take it up!)
One cool thing I got (didn't NEED it) is a Craftsman wall clock that is black and chrome with a red neon light. It was marked down from like $40 to about $10...then I used the coupon on it. It's gunna loolk nice in the garage.
Also - I saw the bargain bin China stuff on my way out, so I picked up a $5 combination screwdriver for exactly $0.00 after the coupon. Sweet.

I'll post a pic of the receipt if you guys want, but trust me this WORKS!

I know half the people at my local sears (since I used to work there), I might stop by tomorrow and see if there's anything I want and have them do some favors for me.

I've gone back twice since the free hammer. Everything except the "free" ones are real Craftsman things. You have to watch the sales. Those $20 gloves I got for $5 are now on sale for $18 instead of $10. But now a $40 toolbox is on sale for $10 instead of $30!
1/7: travel toolbox (20" Craftsman, regularly $39.99, on sale for $9.99) - $5.31 multi-bit screwdriver - free soldering gun - $1.07 solder spool - $1.07

3 stores turned me down on the "multiple coupon use". they pointed it out that the coupon states "void if copied".
BTW, how did you come upon that link?
Title: Woo Hoo! Free tools!
Post by: P71 on January 11, 2008, 09:04:49 PM
It's not copied, what are you supposed to do, bring in the monitor?
A friend on another car forum stumbled on it. I found it on the site eventually, but the direct link is all I have now, I can't remember how to get to it.

well, if i bring in 10 coupons, ive obviously copied them, right?
i did a google search on "$5 sears coupon tool", and came up with a shiznit load of message board links.

When they say "copied",they mean copied like a Xerox machine. It's an internet coupon,it's not copied,it's printed.

Post by: 32VFoxBird on January 12, 2008, 09:10:55 AM
i just dont think that coupon was intended to be strewed all over the net. it was probably a complimentary coupon link, that someone got after they made a purchase on sears.com. i searched the site and could not "find" the coupon.
Title: Woo Hoo! Free tools!
Post by: P71 on January 12, 2008, 12:19:52 PM
Complementary or not, Sears is hosting it, they obviously know it's out there, and they forgot the "1 per customer, per purchase, per day". It's been around since Dec 15th so they would have taken it down by now.

10 more today! I got 5 more sockets, a reducer, 2 plumb bobs, a claw hammer, and a hex set (in the padded handle, multi-tool style, it was $10 even after the coupon, but they are so nice!), plus the assorted tape/super glue/carpenter's pencils to get the totals to $5.
On top of that, the store manager was there at the register and simply smiled and said "Thank you for your business" as I did 10 transactions.

Same store every day. Saw the Store Manager and the Tools Department manager again today. There was even 4-5 other guys there with multiple copies of the coupon.

There was nothing on sale for cheap at our store, and most of the sockets are $4.99 (item has to be $5.00 or more). All of the tools were pretty high priced.I really don't need any tools, but,If I can find them cheap,I'll buy them anyway.I'll try again tomorrow and hope that there's a sell this week since there wasn't last week.I did buy a 1/2 inch to 3/8 drive socket adapter for my 1/2 inch drive socket wrench for $1.08.I'll keep trying.

The .79c carpenter's pencil's are your friends. And the .99c razor blades, the $1.49 super glue, and the $1.68 sandpaper.
Our sockets are $2.49 (1/4" drive), $3.79 (3/8"), and $3.99 (1/2"). Only the weird/specialty stuff is $4.99 and up (plug sockets, universals, stars, etc).

are you buying the companion sockets? I wanted some deep sockets for 3/8 and 1/2 drive and they were something like 8.79. I still can't complain. Thanks for sharing. (those are jersey prices mind you)

this is awfull. When i stumbled across this thread a few days ago. I should have stayed here. instead i moved on and vented on the wrong thread.
Guys/gals isnt this called stealing,, this is the very reason i fugged up and vented in the wrong topic but still, isnt this why fila isnt around anymore? All this talk about character and all, ethics, maturity. Kids see adults scamming and running buisness on the web only leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Not only that, but its being taught here how to scam.
but,, i hope everyone gets a good deal. so there you all have it,, this is what crawled up my a$$

Did you miss the part where the STORE MANAGER personally came up to me and said "Thanks for all of your business"?
Come ON man, NOBODY is buying this. First it's the military thread, then it's RFB, now it's this. You are just reaching for excuses for your attitude. What's it going to be next?
NOTE TO ALL: Not only is the coupon legal, it is being promoted in my area. My local Sears LOVES the high transaction counts and is really bending-over-backwards with service to retain all of the new customers after the sale.
I don't care what anybody says or feels, if Sears Corporate is behind it, hosting it, accepting it, and PROMOTING it, it sure as hell isn't unethical!
I used 15 more down today, 15 sockets, 4 gardening tools, some random glue/grease/adhesive/tape, and some replacement socket holders, all for less then $7.50 out-the-door. They were REALLY dead today. I was the first customer (at noon, they're open since 9) so they split it between 2 cashiers to try to make the day not look so bad. (See above about needing to drive in traffic).

The manager at the Sears here in Ardmore scanned the bar code and off i went.No worries.I'm sure if Sears (being the rather large company that it is) was being scammed by these coupons, their legal offices would have known by now and stopped the use of them.I can't believe that a business of that scale would be that stupid. They know what they're doing.

I've been in a few times and think its a great promo. They did not give me what I ordered online before Christmas (they sent a cheap plastic square instead of the metal one described online) , so I got what I did want with the coupon. I also got a socket extension, and will go back for a screwdriver and maybe some pliers.
I consider this taking full advantage of a promotion (after all that is what it is intended for) hardly scamming anything or misrepresenting myself as I pay what the clerk asks me for. Plus by getting me in I am actually considering buying several expensive items I saw while going in for the promo.
