Title: Dyno'd my Mark VIII

The Car, a 1995 Mark VIII LSC:

The hard numbers:

    * Stock: 232hp, 232lb-ft (approx)
    * Headers, exhaust, modified intake and gutted MAF from junkyard: 246hp, 265lb-ft(the red curve)
    * All of the above + SCT tune: 262hp, 279lb-ft (the blue curve)

The funny thing is, the car feels slower because the powerband is smoother. I gained 20lb-ft of torque below 4000rpm and it really shows when you give part throttle to pass on the highway.  Not to mention the transmission shifts are quicker, but never harsh. Well actually the 3-4 shift at 115 mph was kinda harsh...but I won't be doing that very often.

The moral of the story is: chip and tune your daily driver, you won't regret it. :)

I wanna see videos.

Those are pretty good stock numbers, most ive seen are in the 215-220hp range stock.

Nice car and numbers, I've gone through wanting alot of different cars this year but I think I want one of these! Been looking at them online alot  in the past 3 or 4 months . Still keeping my 88. Nice car!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, I'm not selling my 88 Cougar for anything either. But now I have a DD that has some safety features (airbags, ABS) and looks somewhat modern and turns heads for all the right reasons.

The stock HP figures weren't from a dyno, I would also expect 220hp at the wheels, but the LSCs had 290hp and that's the number I got when I added a 20% friction loss through the wheels.

Either way, I love it.  SCT rules.  I can't wait to get the trac-lok installed and hit the drag strip again. It ran 14.9@95 when stock. I hope/wish/pray to trap 100mph this time.

The engine is rated at 290hp.  You lose 58hp through the drivetrain?

My '98 LSC felt fast but not as fast as I thought it should.

you put headers on that. i bet that was a good time. numbers look good! figure about 18% loss through the drivetrain. i never realy understood why that worked but it does. why would the same drivetrain take away a certain percentage reguardless of engine power instead of a fixed ammount?

20% loss is commonplace for automatic transmissions.  I seriously doubt this car is any different. I usually do 15% for manuals, except the T-56 in Corvettes...those guys insist on 17%.

The 97-98s are complete turds compared to the older ones. (no offense)  The fastest are the 1993-1994s, the 1995s (OBD I) are faster than the 1996s (OBD-II, don't know why but they neutered it), and they are all better than the 1997-98s (py intakes).

shame302: no I didn't install them, I had the same guys who did the tune install them and make me a 2.5" exhaust from a buttload of mandrel bent tubing and a TIG welder. :)

That's because 'Vette #'s are inflated!  :p

That wasn't a dig at the T-56.  They use it on other cars and the 15% rule seems to work with the other cars.....Although I don't know if and what the differences are for a 'Vette T-56.

I know, I'm just messin around. :)

Actually I think all T-56s are closer to 17%, after talking to John Lingenfelter's son-in-law who runs one of his shops.  They dyno so many T-56 cars and they are the most honest people around. (hence why their cars aren't the most aggressively tuned)

It makes sense to tell everyone its 15%, that's good for business. But LPE doesn't lie to people. I like that.

Sorry to bring up an old thread.....but the difference in the C5/C6 application is that the "flywheel" is appoximately 8 feet long....ie the torque tube that spins at engine RPM.

Having said that, the 15% number jibes well with most Corvette dyno curves I've seen. Stock 345 hp LS1s make 300ish at the wheels all day long.

You're probably losing a couple hp through your stock TC also. Unless the previous owner(s) were super buttstuff about tranny fluid changes, your converter probably slips alittle when it's locked.
