I've been on the hunt for a new project car, some sort of 83-84 TBird to stuff my 5.0 in and go racing.
Well I happened to find an 83 TC! Silver on Charcoal leather, vent windows, MANUAL windows, MANUAL seats, 4-spoke sport wheel, no cruise, 5-Speed, REALLY nice interior, straight, no rust, never been hit. The paint is even still nice!
Problem is it's at a junkyard (who has an 86 elan, 87 TC, 88 TC, 83 Cougar 5.0, 84 Cougar, 86 Cougar, 87 Cougar, and 2 Mark VII's). Well these guys are pretty good and still "old school" so I tried to buy the whole car.
THE STUPID STATE OF OREGON WON'T LET ME!!! Once a car enters their yard it is considered "s" and cannot be sold at ALL to ANYBODY! Even a WA state Restoration business (what my license is, retail & restoration)!
So now I have to go there tomorrow and just strip the thing. This really bums me out as this car would have made the perfect starting point for me :(
Maybe ask them what part of the car they have to keep so that the rest can be considered s? What if you bought the motor and the rest separately? There has to be a way.
come on mike there must be a way to save the poor bird. buy the whole yard!!! :hick:
I'm trying! Believe me when I tell you that I have everybody I know working on this. This car is nicer then my 83 was! It's nicer then Layla was too!
Sounds like when I tried to by the minty dark blue 88 Turbo Coupe out of the yard by me. The only thing wrong with the car was that the 4ALD blew  . It had no rust ANYWHERE and 67,000 miles. I couldn't buy it because it was *s* and couldn't be resold to the public :toilet:
Petition your senator and try to change the law..?
Amazing how many otherwise good cars are sped and "totalled" because a hard to find fender lists for more than the car books at..
I got lucky with my TC, but it wasn't 100% legal all the same.
Course, it no longer exists now :-(
Good luck man, at least if nothing else, you saved some hard to find parts from it.
whats wrong with using the '84 in your sig?
It's 1/2 John's and he wants a "street car".
I want an 83-84, bare bones, manual everything, with a cage. I'm talking all-out drag car.
Even if I wasn't "in the hunt" I'd be trying to save this car. 83 TC's are too rare as it is :(
If you're building a "drag car"...have them keep the VIN and say it was crushed and keep the car for "off road purposes only"
good idea!
/me heads to junkyard in the morning
I believe Chuck has the right idea... it's the Vin and/or title that can't leave. THEY are s... the rest is just s metal.
That's what we're going to try next...
i hope that works out for you
i saw many rare and perfect condition cars at the junkyard i wouldve taken/couldve used that the owners wouldnt sell me because of the certificate of destruction branding:mad:
