Title: Aluminum driveshafts, with a twist
Post by: turbo d on December 10, 2007, 03:39:09 PM
I'm sure this topic has been discussed before:

I know some of the turbo coupe guys from nato and turboford have gone with a cut/rewelded/rebalanced factory aluminum driveshaft.  Either off of a Crown Vic or an Aerostar I believe.

What I'm looking for is an aluminum shaft for an 88 turbocoupe with a t-5 BUT with a 9 inch rear instead of the stock 8.8
Any Ideas??

thanks
Darrell

your gonna have to get that fabricated up by someone. I used a regular drive shaft and had it modded and balanced for the 9" that was in my bird. No biggie.

If the shaft is long enough you might be able to get away with a Conversion U joint.

The driveshaft is too long. Thats the issue.

Any competent driveshaft shop should be able to shorten, rebalance, and change the end to mount properly to a 9".

I wanted to have that done as well, but the driveshaft shop around here won't do an aluminum shaft.

Vinnie, The Driveshaft King, I-30 west of downtown Dallas shouldn't be too far for you.
