Title: V6 to 4 Turbo.....
Post by: MexCougar on February 21, 2005, 09:29:39 PM
Since my car its not running, i was visiting a lot of junkyards. i have seen a good 2.3 Turbo in one, and the price is good. Yeah, i dont have the money for a swap, but i was wondering if the 4 Cyl swap is possible for a V6 cougar-Tbird.....

of course it's possible, the 84-86 cougar XR7's had the 2.3 Turbo, same with the t-bird Turbo Coupes.

a turbo 4 would probably be a failry easy swap if you were to go carbed and a manual trans.

Carbed HUH??? Lets see, you'd need a different intake and distributor. Then Have to figure out how to plumb the boost from the carb to the turbo then into the intake(or build a pressure chamber for the carb if it was a blow through system). So hows all this easier than connecting a few wires, and using the original EFI??

That's kinda what I was thinking.  Shouldn't be any harder than going to the 5.0 HO.

With an engine/trans/ECU and harness it would be pretty easy.

My 83 was originally a 5.0/AOD car (then a 5.0/4spd car) before I swapped the 2.3T/5spd.

Not a big deal......

Even if your car is carbed to begin with, the EFI swap would be much more rewarding than attepting to use the old factory draw-through carbed turbo set-up.

Shouldn't be to difficult. I beleive I may be doing the same thing,if I cant get my 3.8 running again. I have everything for it I have. I tore apart two TC's
