The truck just drove off with it's new owner. Even made a $100 on it after 2 years and 20-25K miles.
So, uh, looks like I'm going car shopping tomorrow. Wonder what I'll get?
;)
(I do still have two 302's, a 401, what's left of a Sport, and half of Fast-4-Cheap, hmmmm.... :hick: )
Loser
:shakeass:
Strike "20th Anny Cougar" from the shopping list :P :hick:
I actually already stuck a deposit on a car ;) You guys have to guess what it is. Here's a hint, I haven't mentioned it here. (That rules out Mustang, F150, Camaro/Firebird, 30th Anny TBird, and RX8).
a geo metro!
Well, if it ain't a 20th Anniversay Cougar then it ain't worth discussin'
:hick:
A Vista Cruiser! LOL:hick:
Cougar is still on the list.....But I don't think that a fox Cougar is it.
I'm guessing you'll need something known to be reliable and not someone elses 20+ year old headache that you'll have to fix up as that's not good basic transportation for a one car person.
You've honestly got me stumped.....
micheal come fly out buy my car and drive it home ;)
Depends on whether it has the SBC in it or not ;)
I could but the 401/5-Speed in it...
:D
I say WTF? Why do this to us. Brag about not having one of the cars we all love and meet here to help each other with. ! Oh well you'l be back in to it. Need to find something stylish but reliable first then get back into a bird/cougar.
Psssst...
ipsd, I'm half responsible for an 84TC and have another 302 "just in case" another fox Bird/Cat rolls along. I'm not abandoning you guys by any stretch. Believe me, you'll hear ALL about the 84's drag exploits next year ;)
What happened to Layla?
Layla got sold back in September.
That was my high school car. I outran some trans ams in that car.

The Marauder would be nice so might a Newer P71 crown vic and a supercharger or twin turbo kit?
Didn't get the car. The STEALership was so bad that I had to call the cops. Now I remember why I hate real car shopping :(
What were you going to get?
Cough cough:Get a 2003-2004 Marauder: cough cough....;)
Lincoln mark 8 avoid the dealership and still get a nice car.
wow. You had to call the cops on a dealer? Tell us more.
Yes more. Tell us more.
MOAR BOOST MOAR TIMING MOAR POWA
That makes no sense to me what-so-ever, please explain. Be sure to report them to the BBB.
lol
you had to call the cops?
like,, at the place you decided to go and shop?
i agree,, gotta hear this one:D
i can see it now , you handing the stealership thier ass after you find out they are operating outside the law.
"you are in direct violation of Section FU, pargraph Y , article xyz, sub atomic particle 55.9.01, sub section 2.3, unrehabilitated crookage chapter 2.":shakeass:
:D  :D
i see what your tryin to do,, lol. You know it doesnt take much to egg him on now,,:hick:
;)
No BS.
This dealership is full of liars and swindlers. I made a $500 hold in order to see the car as I live an hour's drive away. I made sure to ask four times whether or not it was refundable, and stated four times that I am in no way agreeing to buy the car. Mr. "Bryrick" informed me that this was "standard procedure, there is no agreement to buy, and the deposit is always 100% refunded regardless of transaction". I've done this before on car deals and NEVER had a problem.
So we drive an hour down there last night. They were rude and condescending. The car was good enough, but their price was a little high. I offered them $245 less then they advertised (less then 2% of the total price) and they absolutely would not budge. Needless to say I didn't buy the car. After being treated like and being lied to (he told us that there were no other versions of this car anywhere in the Portland area on AutoTrader, which is BS, there's 27 of them, then the car magically had tinted windows and he wanted to charge for it, and on top of all of that he tried tacking on $70 for a "trip fee" but the plates were good until 2009!). Mr. "Bryrick" then escorted us out of the dealership.
He REFUSED to give us a receipt showing the hold as returned, and REFUSED to let us see a manager. We had to call the police!
The Sheriff's office was very nice. They had us call the credit card company and NOT authorize the transaction, and then they called me back within an hour and filed a report.
The STEALership was "St. Helens Auto" (Ford dealer) in St. Helens, OR.
You can bet your car the BBB will hear about it (and I already posted the story on Yahoo Local). If the crooks try to charge the $500 and for some reason the CC company allows it (they shouldn't, they're actually pretty good) then this story will be plastered all over the local papers.
We've never been treated like so much dog-doo in our lives. It was like being talked to like a child and guilt-tripped into a car. We're the ones who wasted 3 hours on a Friday, it's their JOB to sell cars!
Good that you stuck to your guns.
so it was a ford dealer, what the HELL were you buying?
It's either a mountaineer or explorer! He wants to be cool like everyone else.
i hope not. who needs exploders...:shakeass:
AMC Matador for that 401 :D Hey...it could happen, my brother bought his old 280zx at a Ford dealership.
ill take GTO for $500, Alex.
All that and no car? Booourns!
It was an SRT4 Neon.
HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!
but just to be a jerk, cause i had it laying around:flame:
joking aside those tings move!!! i hope it was black or silver
You're joking, right? :flame:
Not at all a slam on you..but why a farkin Neon!?
Not joking. They're great around an auto-cross course, 4-doors, surprisingly roomy inside, and have a serious turbo motor. They will flat-out haul butt.
After spending 8 hours yesterday car shopping we're looking at other stuff. I hate car salesmen...
I didn't mean to sound outta line, but my only experiences with Neons are wathing 'em burn, watching em break down, and watching 'em be hauled en masse into junkyards...I suppose that the newer generation(s) were built better. ;)
Good luck on your quest :D
You should be buying that Pacer!!
Pacer, no.
Javelin or AMX, whatever is in his garage... YES!
We started looking at bigger 2-doors. Trying to find a fun 4-door at a reasonable price is like trying to find Cougar convertible...
come up here!! theres about 20000000 of those neons at dealerships! Almost got my mom into on for 19k fully loaded, and stage 2 turbo! But she didnt like the standard trans....
They were only $19,995 brand new.
There's a ton of them here. It's just a lot of them have been wrecked, beat on, or stupidly modified.
I want a stock one.
o man this one was sweet, adult owned, black on black, had the mopar stage 2 upgrade, and man did it fly and get great mileage! had a lot of cash in it, wheels all sorts of stuff, but it was CLEAN. She hated the stick, wont buy one other then the "toy" car...(cobra)
I seen the ass of that Javelin again the other day and took note of the color, it’s Orange, so then I Googled for what I could find out about colors on the Jav’s. I found limited info on it, but on this page http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/basics/basics.htm (http://"http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/basics/basics.htm") it list a “Big Bad” series of the Javelin for 1969 and 1970 only.
1969 'Big Bad' Javelin (includes 'Mod' Javelin): Orange=941; Green=876; Blue=465
1969 'Big Bad' AMX model (includes 'California 500' AMXs): Orange=283; Green=284; Blue=176
And
The 'Big Bad AMX' and 'Big Bad Javelin' (http://"http://www.javelinamx.com/JavHome/basics/70javbbo.jpg"), available in Blue, Green and Orange, carried into 1970 also, tho only the '69 versions had painted bumpers instead of chrome.
1970 'Big Bad' Javelin model: Orange=60; Green=N/A; Blue=N/A
1970 'Big Bad' AMX model: Orange=122; Green=74; Blue=114
I’m going to take note of the bumper for chrome or not next time I see it that should distinguish between the two years I think I have narrowed it down to.
I can’t find anything stating those were the ONLY orange ones offered. But if so then that a pretty rare ride!
But buy his Pacer that way that Jav may still be there in 10+ years when I get rich a famous and can buy a toy. /wink
Bah... got me going on it again, I'm not going to get any work done the rest of the day
http://bigbadamc.tripod.com/index.html
only 26 orange one accounted for here.
AMC had a "regular" Orange in 70 too Jim ;)
That was what I grew up with, an Orange 1970 Javelin SST 360/Auto with the 1/2 vinyl top (black) and a black vinyl interior.
My dad drove that thing until it rusted itself away (Florida beach car).
Then he had a 1970 Javelin Mark Donahue 360/Auto in Black/Black that got t-boned.
Then came the Red/White/Blue Trans Am Javelin look-alike (it was a real Red/Red Mark Donahue 390/4-Speed).
I guess that's why I like Javelins?
Get an SRT-4. Is there anything out there that will run 11's for as little money?
SRT-4 = Skittle
:D
Find one of these by you (I tried but couldn't :hick: ): http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=225465527&dealer_id=72170&car_year=2004&model=MARAUDER&num_records=25&systime=1196709186396&make2=&start_year=1981&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&certified=&body_code=0&fuel=&awsp=false&search_type=both&distance=25&marketZipError=false&search_lang=&make=MERC&color=&page_location=findacar%3A%3Aispsearchform&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=priceDESC&max_mileage=&style_flag=1&sort_type=priceDESC&address=60638&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=21&superSpotlight=
Wait here ya go: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/492234480.html
$7,000 out of my price range.
And the SRT4 I'm looking at has 1/2 the miles.
Yeah that's a bit more than you're looking to spend :hick:

Bob Myers
i drove one and it was nice... boosted quick.
I took off in 1st spinning went to slam into 2.nd and the shifter came off and i punched myself in the leg and hit my keys so my leg was a little numb. fun car though. just didnt seem soild to me. i dont know. I drove a WRX after and it drove better but they don't boost for a long ass time. I would still drive a SRT-4
I dunno fellas...I ain't sayin they're slow, I've seen a few of those boosted ones over in town whoopin it up on other cars...
But the Neon I drove belonged to a friend, she bought it new, and man oh man, was that thing ever an under-engineered POS.
Rattles, squeaks, stuff falling apart, weak brakes..etc etc.
But to keep it in perspective, that was when Plymouth first started making them.
There was a fella here that had a sig that said:
Fast, Cheap, Reliable. Pick two.
To me it sums up the Neon..whatever version it is.
I guess that's how I feel about 'em after watching my friend's Neon toast itself in her driveway...and that was after the transmission and then the eec went out of it.
