i think its the vacuum operated parking break release but i havent a clue what it is.....its hissing like hell when i start car i put finger over the back of it and it quiets up but thats it.....what is it and how do i fix the hissing :-?
It's the release. You can replace the module, pull it and fix the cracked housing or leaking hose, or pull off the vacuum supply hose and plug it.
thats the same part i had hissing on my 20th when i picked it up. I undid the lines and plugged one off. if it is a simple as the housing being cracked, then that seems prety fixable to me.
anyone ever fixed one?
I would think since it's a vaccume pod, you could probably seal the leak with silicone on the outside.
Looks like it is hard plastic Might try some of that Plastic welder epoxy stuff.
Aside from there being a leak in the vacuum lines that run to the valve, there is not much of anything that you can do to fix it other than to replace the part. I had the exact same problem a couple years back, and upon removing the valve and inspecting it, I noticed that there are 2 rubber seals inside of it that cover one hole or the other. I'd presume that, with the nature of any rubber based seal, it deteriorated due to age. In all honesty I don't believe there is a good way to the the piece apart to repair it without completely messing it up. My personal fix was to just couple the hose vacuum lines together with a piece of wooden dowel rod.
Hope that helps.
ok i thought it was a vacuum tree....so the lines dont do anything besides the parking break release could this be whats wrong with my low performance also i figure it is vaccume leak = more gas= less performance..because it wont even burn out foot on break foot on gas nothing but raises rear end and hear engine revving..... will burn out cornering but thats it....i just want it to get up to speed better.....
I got one from the local Ford dealer for ~$30 a year ago......
Yep, mine leaked - disconnected and plugged the line many years ago. Thing is just a toy.
