Title: So the Ford Truck forum can go screw itself...
Post by: Thunder Chicken on November 20, 2007, 05:43:53 PM
I tried viewing the link Beau provided on the thread at FTE about the '09 F-150 and was presented with this gem of a message:

It's bad enough to plaster a forum with ads, now they won't even let us ignore them. Being on dialup internet I try to preserve my bandwidth for something useful. It takes long enough to load a page without having to wait for a bunch of "turbonator" or Amazon.com ads. This action, in my opinion, is tantamount to forbidding you from getting up and have a piss during a commercial - imagine coming back to a blank TV screen and seeing "Sorry, you missed the commercial, no TV for you".

Soon enough I imagine they'll require you to click on the ads to make sure you've seen 'em, or to provide proof that you've actually bought something at one of the sponsors...

The pics of the truck are at http://www.thecarconnection.com

There's lots of pics on that FTE link, and I can see it taking quite awhile to load up at 56k

Also. as a member, I should mention I have no ads.

I used to cruise the boards there like I do here, but it got to be too nit-picky and political there, now I only go there like twice or 3 times a week. Those ads sucks, and I've even got dsl, albeit 1500kbps speeds.

i agree, so many forums have gone this route its sad that people gotta make a living shoving popups and pop-unders that arent even relevant to the place your visiting. thank god the select few forums i most frequent havent resorted to this tactic, yet:beatyoass:

I'm a member myself, and used to get no ads, but of course Firefox was blocking 'em. This message appeared for the first time tonight. I've actually figured out how to bypass the problem (simply click on the "stop" button as soon as the quick reply box appears, it prevents the script from loading) but it just ain't worth it. The site does nothing to float my boat anyway - like Beau says, it's too stuffy. Anything I need to know about the F150 can be found on Mitchell OnDemand or I can ask here.

You will never, ever see this forum resort to that kind of shiznit. We might not have the fastest server in the world, but it's cheap enough to afford without whoring ourselves out, and the Fox T-Bird/Cougar community is small enough that we don't have to resort to blackmail or bribery to pay for bandwidth. If somebody wants to advertise a T-Bird/Cougar specific product here, we have a section that they're free to do so in (emphasis on "free").

This forum was made by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, it's not a commercial venture.

Another reason I like this board you guts do a good job keeping the  out.

Some of the stang sites actually show you what words to stay away from or a pop up happens

Which reminds me... where can I send a donation to help defray the bandwidth costs? This site has contributed to keeping a few dollars in my pocket that may not have otherwise been there so I should send a few to the site owners.

Worked for me and I run Firefox 2 with Ad-Block Plus...

But that's gay, ads piss me off.  Especially the video ones or ones with sound.

yeah, the ads have gotten alot worse in the last 5 years.  FTE was purchased by a new server this year(or was it last?) and everything has gone south.  However, I'm in the 48-60 section, and we have our own little family there, just like here.  Now go to the 73-79 section, and you'll get flooded by the numbers, lol.

Oh, FTE. I have heard of it. Never been there. I found another forum for my beloved '72 F250 and stuck with it. But I have heard a few stories.

I was the founding Illinois Chapter Leader on FTE.

I have not been there in sometime.

It is clearly not the same site it once had been.

The direction seems to have changed.
