Title: Digital Cluster?
Post by: Punisher on November 12, 2007, 01:40:59 AM
I have a full digital cluster in my 83....but from what im finding on the internet it was only available in the 85-up.  But mine looks NOTHING like that.  Is this a different option or is it stock?  im not complaining, i was wondering, i like it.  And i was also wondering if the 199MPH trick will work with it too.

The upgrade should work just fine for the 199mph reading.I did it to a few of those gauges and sold or traded them all off. It's easy if you take your time and pay attention to what you're doing.I remember the first time I saw that gauge climb to 100mph after only being able to go to 85 for so long.Sweeeet.

He's got a different cluster, Vinnie - his '83 would have a vacuum-flourescent display instead of the LCD display used in 85 and newer models. There may be a way to modify the 83-84 display to read 199, but the "fix" we all talk about for the 85-on won't work.

Not without replacing the entire dash panel, from door to door, and even then I highly doubt it'd be a "bolt-in" - you'd have some serious wiring to do, too...

I have the 88 Cat, I am in the process of "upgrading" from the base model. I just swapped the base digital to the buttstuffog panel, I was going to go to the full digital until I found out about the need to swap the fuel sender and just about every other sender/sensor. :cougarsmily:
