anyone got any good links where to find a good 5.0ho with everything i need for the swap.....no good local junkyards or good availability of a 5.0ho with low miles and not a lemon motor.......
If you have a 5.0 already, just do the H.O upgrade (cam, headers, intake),if you have a 3.8,and want to swap, you can buy a used 5.0 from anything for cheap and build it up for minimal cost.Ebay always has H.O engines on there for bidding.Good luck.
cant do that because the ammount of down time the car will have.....
id rather have motor outside of car for alittle while to save get some upgrades i might want to do before engine is inside of car.....
Consider something like a Jasper motor? Yeah, they aren't as cheap as a good used replacement but it is all reconditioned and what not and has a warrenty. Plus they can do performance mods to your specs.
http://www.corral.net and go to classifieds and part for 5.0/5.8winsor
I go with a reputable local machiene shop over Jasper. Most of the time you'll get a better quality product.
there's a junk yard here in utah that has a 5.0 HO in a 91 cougar LS. obviously not original. i could pull all the parts you want and ship them to you if you want. or the whole motor. obviously very pricy.
Does it have to be a 5.0? just askin'
Find you a 460??? its not cheap but at least someone makes headers and motor mounts. Scrool down to the bottom of the page.

91-97's got the H.O. treatment
it is a 5.0 HO and i had no idea that they would've put one in an LS.

Nothing but Mustangs with HO motors.
which is better? cobra or ho?
Cobra. Has better heads and upper/lower intake.
5.0 HO was an option in 91-93 Cougars, regardless of LS or XR7. LS and XR7 were basically trim levels.
Nope. 91-93 had an optional 5.0 HO. 94-97 had no 5.0. They ran with an optional SOHC 4.6.
aw , youre right, i knew that but my brain farted. my point being, 5.0 HO was in option in cougars, just select years
We concede to your greatness oh wise one!
I bought mt 88 H/O on ebay for $650.00 + shipping. It had 37000 original miles and runs great. I kept the speed density and up- graded to a 65 mm TB and headers. You will need to get the matching computer and wiring harness. Keep checking ebay.

quick question. was there ever a 4.6 sohc HO?
no...there are the 4.6 with 2 cams, the 4 cam Cobra version, and now the 3 valve versions, but none were HO....that died along with the 5.0
There's a PI (Performance Improvement/Power Improved... whatever) version. It's
kinda an HO... AFAIK it has intake and heads... but don't quote me on that. I'm not all that into the SOHC version. Dual cams FTW!!! :)
I decided to consult the wiki before posting. Looks like it got heads, cam and intake.

That was basically because Ford's advertised horsepower amount was wrong.
There was a recall, and these were the pieces that were put on.
Hence the term "PI"...I guess in a way, it could be said they were a "higher output"..but were not officially named as such.
"The V8 remained untouched, while the Cobra claimed 320 hp (239 kW). Ford responded to complaints by issuing a recall on the 1999 model Cobras, which were given computer, intake, and exhaust improvements, to match the original claim of 320 hp.
As a result, Cobra production was halted in 2000 (except the limited Cobra R) while the company was developing new parts for the missing power. The changes were incorporated into the 2001 Cobra, which could achieve 1/4 mile times in the mid-13 second range."
"As a "modular" family, the heads on the earlier 4.6 L SOHC motors can be exchanged with "Power Improved" heads as offered via the Ford Parts Catalog. Due to a different combustion chamber and pistons, the compression increased to over 10:1 and subsequently required premium fuel to inhibit detonation (knocking)."
