Last week I found a product that I'm very happy with. It's called "Restore Black" and it's made by Bondo. I used it on my 82 Cougar Wagon mouldings and bumper corners. It went on easy cleans up with water and is supposed to last 6 months before re-application is necessary.
I got it at Wal-Mart for $10.60 which includes the 7.25% sales tax. None of the local auto parts stores had anything.
I'm going to try it on the 86 Bird next.
take pics:D
ive been looking for something to freshen up my moulding
Ive used black shoe polish with great results.
Mother's Back-To-Black is the stuff to use on the rubber molding in between the wheelwells (where it says "Turbo Coupe" on the TC's).
What if the previous owner painted the molding black ? and did a s#!!y job.
Krylon lasted more than 7 years on my '86.
Just sayin'
Then you take a rag soaked in lacquer thinner and rub it back in forth checking every few wipes to see how it is doing. The trim on these are is a urethane so you could really dry it out but take your time and work slow also don't work on in spot to long. Work on one trim piece for a few them work on the next one or two then go back to the first that will help the thinner work into the paint also letting some of it evaporate so you don't soak it into the piece so much. Also using 00, 000, 0000 steel wool will aid in the paint removal without messing up the trim. Then finish it off with some Cover ALL followed by a towel to wipe the excess. Worked before I ripped the trim off the car.
i picked up some of the "restore black" from my local overcrowded walmart and decided to give it a shot.
ill take some pics before i do the whole car but only did a test area on the rear pass. side moulding to see how it looks, and its been raining/snowing here and havent washed the car yet.
so far it makes a difference but the foam applicator does leave a bit of streaking
Does your look this bad like mine used to as far as the rear bumper trim??? My car almost 4 years ago should not take more than 20mins or so put up some before and after pics.
