The exterior color is sort of uncommon. The interior...very uncommon color. Probably with good reason. ;)
I actually saw that yesterday....I noticed the steering wheel and went "whuuuuuut?" And I dont know the color combos of all these cars that well, but I was pretty sure most of our steering wheels were BLACK lol.
That sure is odd. Thing's in decent shape too!
Well, 1984's are unique as far as interiors go. They have their own door panels (83's had metal emblems), their own dash/radio surround panels (different grains/colors from 83's in all models), and it was the first and only year for the color-keyed A-frame steering wheel. The leather wrapping on the wheels, if so equipped, were also color-keyed. So if you see a black wrap on a colored '84 wheel like this, that means the OEM leather split and cracked and may have even fallen off. That's a typical problem, actually.
For only 1984 the steering wheels could be had in Canyon Red, Academy Blue, Wheat, Charcoal, Desert Tan and Oxford Grey. Now in 1985 for the interior re-do, Ford used the same steering wheel but they were either dark, dark grey (which was NOT the same as the previous Charcoal) or, for those with the lighter tan interiors, a chocolate brown. Anytime you see a colored A-frame wheel that is not dark grey or chocolate it absolutely has to come from a 1984 car.
Just a li'l trivia. ;)
Eric -Talk about an odd ball out of all the other cougar colors this one takes the cake !!!!!
I dig the interior. Very Nice!
Yea! Now you can add a picture of a Wheat Cougar to the Cool Cats Cougar Colors page! Now all you need is Black/Dark Charcoal!
That car has been repainted. But Eric back when I had my 83 that is close to what I was considering painting my car.
The car in this auction looks to be Light Wheat...I have that color already on the page (but this is a better representation and I'll probably replace it with this car). The regular Wheat is darker than that, almost like you took Light Wheat and some chocolate milk and mixed 'em together. Wheat is not a very handsome color. ;)
The second Fox I ever considered buying was identical to that car except it wasn't black on the bottom (the first Fox I considered was a white '84 T-Bird). I'm guessing that car has had bodywork below the mouldings. The one I looked at, too, was an optionless car (note the crank'em windows, lack of A/C and base wheel covers on the car featured in that auction). I knew absolutely nothing about cars back then and passed on it because the guy had to start it with a screwdriver. Little did I realize that it was a $12 solenoid.
I ended up buying a similarly rare (and every bit as optionless) car though - the light sage green '85 T-Bird with charcoal interior.
I actually really like that wheat interior. Don't see many of these cars with light coloured interiors...
I was gonna say I like the color combo too, and the interior too as Thunder Chicken said. My dad always liked tan interiors, NOTHING else. Im sure that factored into his purchase of this cougar. I gotta say I like the lighter color too. That one actually reminds me of my grandma's old '86 Town Car. I was SOOO sad when she got rid of that. Body looked great but there was horrible structural rust. The interior was the same color, or a similar one, with the NICEST cloth seats I've ever sat in. I remember always getting excited to go for a ride with her in that thing.
The cream color and the chrome trim and hubcaps seem to make it very well-placed in its time. I feel like Ive seen a lot of old Malibus and Caprices and other stuff from the early 80s with the same kind of exterior scheme.
Since This Has Been Brought Up I Had An 85 That Had That Color And The Two Tone Wheat And Brown Dashhere Is The Only Pic I Have Handy Look At The Hood Ad Passenger Fender This Is A Car I Bought For $100.it Was Recked On The Driver Side And The Guy I Bought It From Gave Me The 85 T-bird To Use For Parts Some Of You May Remember This Is The Cougar With The T-bird Front Clip And Motor Sports Grill Witch I Think I Sld That Grill To A Board Member
That km/h cluster/speedo is great. :hick:
The '83 i got my silver cluster out of had that color interior (Though it was moldy And filthy), even had leather seats but they were shredded.
Exterior was white.
haha its just like my 84 cept mine doesnt have the black on the bottom :)) light wheat with wheat interior
Hey Eric. I belive my t-bird is the wheat color. My door jamb info says it's "63D" it's an 84 TC.
Nope...
It's Light Desert Tan Clearcoat Metallic. I've never seen another like it.
I would have liked to have kept that car and repainted it original color and blacked out the trim, etc and put black wheels on it. :(
They all say "63D" - that means it's a Thunderbird. The colour code is above the line, above the word "body", where it says "Exterior Paint Colors" (yes, Claude, they spelled "colours" wrong :hick:). On my door tag (below) the colour code is "91" or "9L" (can't make the pic out)
I didn't even see that number above it. I was looking below. Thanks for the info. Chuck, I'm keeping her that color, at least for the winter then she will be repainted in the spring. Just be happy she's gonna be running again.
I like the interior. The outside on the other hand looks like someone threw up a bowl of cheerios.
Does the stuffed duck come with the auction? That would seal the deal.
