Title: Homemade ler?
Post by: bhazard on October 10, 2007, 09:37:41 PM
Anyone ever done it?

Im thinking of taking a 2 1/4" or 2 1/2" pipe, drilling a ton of holes through it, wrapping it with something, and inserting it into a bigger pipe, like 3". Then crush the ends of the 3" pipe down on the smaller pipe or something, and welding it.

Not sure what I would wrap it with though, fiberglass header wrap, or that cheap exhaust wrap  at autozoo?

i didnt make them, but there constructed of stainless no packing or baffles about 30" long and 5-6" round they have a good sound to them imo and i dont see constructing them with some kind of baffles presenting a problem just remember that it gets awfull hot in there.

If you want i can try to get a sound clip.

lol,, can't believe im discussing this but oh well, here goes for homemade ler.

I did dual exhaust on my riding mower and decided i really dont like smelling the exhaust from up front.

I run dual pipes to the rear.  I then go get some of that wire webbing  i pulled from a catalytic converter gut job i did logn ago.  I crammed some of that stuff up in there then ran a screw into the pipe to keep the wire webbing from shooting out.  works great to this day.

maybe you can just cram some old catalytic up inside your straight pipe and run a screw in to keep it there then see how it does/sounds.

Dude, a Cherry Bomb is like $20. Why bother making a redneck Cherry Bomb when you can buy a real one so cheap?

I built the ler on my bronco when I was in high school.  I think whatever performance gains there were to be made with it would be negated by the weight of it:hick: 39 pounds of 10 gauge, but it sounded GREAT because it was a copy of a flowmaster.  Cost me all of $17 to make:D

Coffee can stuffed with steel wool. Use a 5" pipe exit for that ricer sound.

I used two HD lers for my hot rod lawnmower...very cool, especially when I turned the mower off and flames shot out of it....yeah, it ran rich.
