I have a 86 turbocoupe and everything was running good, now all of a sudden theres a major miss in it. I changed plugs/wires which didnt help at all. At first it seamed to only do it under boost and once it was warmed up but now its pretty much constant and wont barely move. Now this all started and happened within about a 48-72hr period.
any info is appreciated.
Blew a head gasket.
Do a compression check.
thats what i was kind of thinkin too.... 2.3's :( this will be my second one to blow a head gasket if so.....
hmmm....now is it possible to just lift the head and swap the gasket without completely yanking everything?
I'd check the fuel pressure too.
thanks....i was told to do that here at work too...
well guys wish me luck im takin the compression tester and a fuel pressure tester home tonight with me so hopefully i'll find something out.
sure, if you want to be doing it again in another day/week/month.
Actually you can leave the exhaust mani in the car and just remove the upper intake. you can leave the lower on the head when you pull it off. Also maybe you have an exhaust restriction. maybe the cat is plugging up or something got bent causing less flow. If the compression checks out drop the down pipe and go for a run if the power is back and the miss is gone its in the exhaust. I had a cat plug up on me before idled fine but had no power and wouldn't build boost.
well looks like its head gasket as im puking a/f all of a sudden now out front of head area :( doin head gasket this weekend i guess....always freakin sumthin....just got the car 2 weeks ago :(
Check your deck surfaces for flatness.
X 2 wouldnt hurt to have it machined while its out.
any ideas now as to why i would have smoke coming from exhaust manifold and plug area? I had a issue with timing but got that taken care of and now it runs better but not good enough to drive....i had soem issues with fire from the exhaust manifold but it was just like a flame.....maybe ruiend the new head gasket?
Oil residue burning off the manifold?
What was your "timing issue"
Did you check your head and block for flatness before you installed the new HG?
heh got me...i didnt check it for flatness and from what i was told today thats my issue...so anyone wanna buy a 2.3 longblock with no intake/exhaust manifolds and is in need of hg and shaving the head? its coming out of the car soon, if i get it sold quik then a 2.3 turbo will go back in if not its gonna be a v8 probably :(
