looking through local classifieds i find 3.73 Rear End
Out of a 90 Mustang LX with a 2.3L $50 o.b.o. i got a 86 bird elan 5.0 digi dash.....would this slide right in other then i need diff wheels due to 5 lugs? and would it be suited as daily driver soon to be DD/weekend racer :P (saving for 5.0HO need ideas on best cheapest trans......)
the 90 lx would be a 4 lug unit unless not stock. i would have to say it will bolt right in to ur existing control arms may be different width im not 100% clear on the interchange of exact same deminsions someone else can chip in there. as far as the transmission goes it depends if you want a stick or auto if ur weekend racing involves drags then go with an auto.
If it's a stock rear end in a 2.3 90 LX it will be the same width as your 86's.
Sorry but no.
86-88 7.5 rears found in the Tbirds have the wider housing and the wider track.(Remember we've discussed this...)
It wil be 3/4" narrower per side than what is in there and the axles in his rear will not swap.
but the whole rear assy would swap wouldnt it chuck? he could be refering to the complete unit which is very likely.
Like I just said...the WHOLE thing will be narrower by 3/4" per side.
Chuck is correct. I forgot what year the switch over occured on the axles. My apologies. CougarBirds got the wider axle housings in mid 85. For some reason I was thinking 87. Again sorry:shoothead
ah i see the mention of swappin axles confused me lol
Anybody else notice it's 3.73 rear from a 90 2.3 Mustang?
I thought they were all 2.73 or 3.08's. But then I suck at rear-end identification :hick:
yes, you do. :hick: my 93 2.3l had 3.45 gears stock. 3.73 were commonly used in the 2.3's, due to the lack of power the motor made. :hick:
Yep. Most of them at the yards by me have 3.73s. It's a cheap way to get 3.73 gears for your 7.5 though :hick:
i had an 89 2.3 stang with a4ld that had the 3.73 rear
:D :hick:
I just remember driving a 93 2.3 Vert and wondering how the hell V8 Vert's stayed together as it cowl shook and rattled all of my teeth loose...
