Title: Turbine Pics.
Post by: cougrrr302 on October 01, 2007, 06:11:05 PM
Does anyone have a full view pic of turbines on a Four Eye Cougar? I am thinking about turbines, and recently I wonder about 20th Anny Turbines. My cougar is about the same shade of Maroon. Just a thought.

You mean 17th lol. And yes, now you know what I meant. It got me thinking. Now all I would need is gold trim, and that gold plated grille that someone posted pics of. That would be really cool.

The wheels are presently in my shed, since I did not want to leave them on the car my son is presently driving, and the tires that are on it now are from the 86' turbo Cat and were brand new.

Turbines are the only wheels for the fox catbirds.

I only wish you could do a five lug conversion and still use the turbines.

Why you ask?  One word.  Cobra IRS.

I knew turbines were popular, but . I like the way they look. Im torn between turbines or ponies. Not a fan of the stang center caps, but I love 5 spoked wheels. Plus I have to find a set of either in the first place. If I can find another 4 Eye Cougar, I am definetly doing the 20th Anny Theme, Maroon and Gold.

50resto.com has Cobra Snake center caps for the Ponys:hick:

I've been wondering how my T-bird would look with Turbines with a polished lip and spokes and a gunmetal center and sides of the fins (a la 88 XR7 without the argent wheels).......

Huh wow thats neat, frakensteining the two kinds! Thats like the ONE thing I couldnt stand when I first saw an 83-86 cougar, it just didnt seem right, I was like 12 years old, riding with my dad and we saw one, and I said "dad I like your window better" lol but since joining here it grew on me a LOT and I couldnt give a  anymore. But....I have to say I do like the look.

im just trying to implant the thought into someones mind, maybe they will pull it off.

we already know the 87/88 nose end will bolt on the 86and down.  now mix in the opra window.

Yes it adds something i cant describe either, i think it adds more curves to the boarderline boxy look.  I did not do a good job with the opra window and i wish someone would actually manipulate one up better.

I do think that if the 86 and down had that window, it would be much more classy and sporty all mixed in one.

Talk about a c-pillar blind spot. :D

Starts to look like someone tried to make a 2 door Dodge Dynasty.  Ugly.

Haha yeah as if I dont hate that blindspot bad enough already!

Doesnt seem right to me. Gonna second the Dynasty comment :giggle:

Theres just too much space between the back and the window....and then the shorter window = steeper bottom edge, *almost* vertical, which matches the vertical back and that doesnt go right for me.

I think one of the biggest reasons I like cars of the 60s and first half of the 70s is contrast. Where? Body and head/tail lights. Ive sat and thought about it before, and the bodies more toward the squared off side, and the old sealed beam circular headlights seem to go REAL well for me. I feel thats why late 70s early 80s boxy cars look so bland, because of sqaure lights too. I dont claim to know anything about style this is just my feeling. But contrast seems to help in a lot of things...different being the operative word...."it would be such a boring world if we were all the same" etc etc that old chestnut you can apply it to a lot of things that variety is a good thing and I think autobody styling cues fit the bill too. These cars seem to have a good mix of 80s boxy-ness and curves....and it must work...otherwise why would we love em so much?

The less vertical bottom edge of the quarter window just seems to complement that straight up and down back so well. I believe its been said on here or CoolCats that the buying public just ate up the '83 cougars even though 'zines were highly critical. Im not too surprised.

Gotta love photoshop! If I ever "git round to it" meaning probably never I want to take my quarter window and flip it vertically, Chevy Beretta-esque :hick: I dunno a close friend/car guy has a beretta and I think those are pretty cars. Thats what theyve got, I just feel like experimenting with it, I think they call that like a "design exercise" or something? I think it will be butt-ugly but...curiosity.....cant...resist!!!

Edit---Oh boy...I sat and stared at the "overhaul" scott gave me, I dont really know its tough....I kinda like the fattened up panel there....the look seems kinda more muscular...man it must suck to be a designer..."beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Im sure some people for some reason have an attraction to AMC Pacers. Good thing theres a lot of cars out there, something for everyone. Im curious to see what others think of the small window on the normally big-windowed car.

I know, those are Pony center caps. I was saying that Pony wheels and Turbines look good on Four Eye Cougars. If only I could find a set of Pony's.
