Haven't been on lately. No time. No picks up of my cougar cuz i was thoroughly embarrassed by the massive spots of chipping paint on my front bumper. Somebody took care of that for me though. My first accident in my cougar. :brick: But strangely enough the bumper was the ONLY thing damaged. So now the body shop is waiting for a new bumper to show up and get a fresh coat of white paint. :D I can't wait. And i'm also working on dressing up the engine as inspired by a painted air silencer on TCCoA. Can't wait to have the pics up. Just need more ideas for engine dress up. :ttiwwp:
nice aluminum valve covers, polish the intake, super clean everything,re-wrap the bad spots in the harness if there are any, clean and repaint, and,if you choose to get a little crazy, you could hide a lot of the wiring.
Well the intake is hidden. it's a 95 with a 4.6 with a big goofy plastic thing called an air silencer taking up alot of the top. i didn't really like people's pics of how they replaced it with a big pipe and found one that a guy had painted white and i liked that alot better. The pic is in TCCoA car gallery engine section if you don't know the plastic thing i'm talking about.
Even better idea on that intake. I could remove the air silencer thing, move the MAF up to right in front of the throttle body and add a FUNCTIONAL hood scoop. I'd just need to figure out if the overall length on the throttlebody MAF and K&N will put that hole right in the middle of that hood brace...
I've got a 94 cougar 4.6 so I feel your pain. I made my own didn't cost me but $20 maybe. Here is what I did. Need a K&N panel filter though. The air silencer thing is under the Air box. That big thing quiets it down but it is more of a restriction than anything. Mine sound like a V8 sucking air now.

So what is that big plastic thing on top that says 4.6L V8?
The big thing on top is the intake tube if that is what you can call the big ole violin case looking thing.
Supposedly, that violin case helps to silence some of the noise as well. Personaly, I like a little noise:evilgrin:
What kind of noise? air suction? motor? exhaust?
The noise I hear is a V8 sucking in air. Need to free up my exhaust.
What motor is that in your sig? Never seen a cougar or bird with a straight... anything.
Air suction. Some whinner babies don't like to hear the engines breathing like they should. With the way the manufactures put those wavey air tubes in the air track, it's like taking a vacum cleaner hose and twirling it over your head.
The motor in my sig is the 2.3T that is in my 84 turbo coupe.
Ok. so i need some ideas for a functional hood scoop. gonna need to be big, almost full length of the hood cuz it would have to be down in front and i'm not putting a small one at the wrong end of the hood. that would be hideous. I'm gonna move my MAF to just in front of the throt, ditch the big plastic thing and mount my K&N right there. it'll be by the alternator. need pics of grande surface area hood scoops!
I'm not so sure that is a good Idea. The filter would have to be so small if it is a cone type to fit even with a scoop. Now with a custom made panel filter holder that seals to the hood when closed would be nice. Get a big enough scoop and it might make it enough ram air effect to really make a difference. It would look pretty cool when you open the hood too.
Looks to me like a biased opinion. lol
And i've actually seen a set up like i'm thinking of and it looks like it works nicely. Looks like the dual hood scoop on new f series trucks, goes almost full hood length, and the filter is on a black plastic tray to the side of the alterator that mounts just above the radiator. I think i saw the pic here in a sig but i'm not sure.
Ok i identified the car purely by accident. it's cougnut's filter setup. he's got some sort of diamondplate tray under it for the ram air effect and probably heat blockage too. Hey cougnut, how's that work for ya? i don't see the scoop hole in the hood, did you fit the filter without it? *cougnut is his user name on cougarnuts.com no idea what it us here. but it is justin with the 94 in viewer photos.*
so i've definitely decide to go with a hood scoop. i wanna get 1 that matches the 68 cougar cuz it looks badass, but mostly for cougar tradition. anybody know where to find one that would fit and how much?
after noticing that there were some vastly different hoodscoops on the old cougs, i went looking for a picture to show you guys what i'm thinking. you'll have to click on the image itself to enlarge it and get a better view. found one here on this dark green cougar. found another shot with brighter paint for a better look. what do you think of that on an mn12?
