Title: Tightening up outback for coil-overs
Post by: booksix on September 28, 2007, 02:03:11 PM
Ok, so after Jeremy is done flaming me for actually using anything Granatelli on my car :flip: (just kidding buddy!) I was hoping I could get some input on tightening up the whole back of the car.

I know some people complain of cracking shock towers.  I've heard the first thing to do is weld seams back there.  And then perhaps tie the towers into the sub frames...  So first, I pulled my trunk panels to find a ton of seam sealer all up in the seams back there.  Do you guys strip this all out and then weld it up...  Do I do it from the trunk, or from underneath?  I don't know much about this stuff back there so I'm looking for some info on what all needs to be welded up.  Also, is there a good article on inspecting torque boxes?  Do we usually have the same problems ans the mustangs (i would assume so)?  And last, anyone have a suggestion on tying the shock towers in to help hold the load?

I wouldn't worry about the rear shock towers. I haven't read many cases of cracking/failre from coil-overs.

Can you post some threads? I just searched and didn't find anything. However, their search engine sucks so I probably missed relevant threads.

idk, I didn't keep any, just know that there was some mention of the issue.

I also came across a rear coil-over thread on google where some guy was asking about a shock tower brace (rear, obviously) and it was said that welding up the seams around the shock towers would do way more than even a "legit" brace that taps into the sub frames...
