Title: Post your "work" station
Post by: Haystack on February 15, 2005, 05:57:03 AM
Here is mine. Left is my main computer, 300mhz p2, 96 megs ram, new 20 gig hard drive, and surround sound, with "1000 watt power!"  :shakehead prolly really around 100 watts tops. and to the right, my littlest brothers computer, a 500mhz p2 ,32 megs of ram, 8x burner with a dvd player, tv card and a couple of others. It is sitting on top of a 16 port network hub with infared and t1/t3 cappabilities, bought for $5.

IBM P166 hiding under the towels (gotta le the noise), 64 megs ram, 2gig + 540mb drives, cheap speakers behind the monitor that's sitting on my first (now dead) PC, a LEO 286.  Got my pens, got my TV remotes, got my camera "station" (dishtowel and serial cable on the right), USR Courier external modem (dumpster 33.6, flashed to 56k) on the left, some silly T-Bird/Cougar forum on the screen.

Next system in testing stages, P233, 128mb, 6Gb, hooked to the IBM via 9-port 10base-T hub. Apart from memory, 100% dumpster parts.

A bunch of assorted size/shape cases, as I tend to flip-flop between desktop and tower preference. Good for scavenging parts and sheet metal for other projects. A couple of PII's in there too, just waiting for a complete ATX case to show up. Don't worry, I do toss one out now and then.

A few extra boards, cause you just never know. Plus a couple more external modems.

Assorted spare drives, different sizes. I wonder what's on those laptoppers? Gotta get an adapter one of these days.

More spare stuff. This is the front row, more boxes behind and elsewhere.

Heres my POS sittin on the table in the middle of the house, works for me. Its usually more cluttered but the womens keep bugging me about it being messy and everyone knows its easier to clean it up then listen to them  my printer sits on a chair behind the table, and its hooked up to my stereo for sound 'cause i'm too cheap to buy a set of speakers.
2.7Ghz Celron, 40Gb Hd, 256Mb Ram, and i'm guessing 20-25 watts of pounding bass through the 'ole 8 track player :screwy:

instead of 40Watts... :giggle:

i'm useing some of my stuff from my home theather system..

one of the two i have.. FA901 crest amplifier from my rack which is 225watts per CH in 8ohms
and the two peices of my center channel each enclosure has two 8's
one 4"mid and one mylar tweeter.. yes lol my center channel for my home theater uses those two enclosures... which when put together equals 72" long... hell i might as well use some of this stuff instead of letting it just collect dust...

Well, I think mine is 40W...or maybe that's all I paid for it :wtf:

It might be closer to 80W.  All I know is I can't turn it up all the way because the sub will shake the windows in the room and vibrate things off the shelves :screwy:

I'll probably upgrade the motherboard/processor/RAM next winter...

yeah, my laptop kicks a$$, only 2 issues I have with it so far.

1- its HUGE, only 1 Targus can fit it in because of the 17" wide screen monitor
2- Im used to large desktops, not compact keyboards and such

as soon as I get over these, desktop becomes a file w and laptop replaces all!

I also own a 12" Apple iBook G3/700 and my old tower, a G4/350Mhz in the basp00get for audio recording and encoding.

Lets see who gets the award for worst upkeep!!!

Here is a lights out pic....  Oooh  Aaaw  Isn't it pretty!

do these work?

I would upgrade but I've never encounterd a problem with it, everybody tells me how buggy it is.  I was a pc repairman at a store in logan,  but they went under because of poor managment, I now just work for the customers that had been there.  I've tweeked the hell out of my xp system,  Memory tweeks, driver tweeks and registry tweeks, and it runs top notch,  hell I havn't formatted in like a year.  It used to be a monthly thing for me...

I've never had a problem with FCKGW being buggy, the only problem I have had is trying to get updates. Seems FCKGW has been blacklisted by M$. If you go in and change the serial number (with any of the readily available SN generators) you can get your updates. Until I bought the Dells I was running FCKGW without the FCKGW serial #
