YES YES YES those were taken today about 3ish in the afternoon.
I'm really a redneck now....two words: Epoxy Enamel. I painted my tires black. I thought about it early last week, and decided that this weekend I'd make my time home worth it...expel the evil life force from my car.
I dont know how well paint adheres to spinning rubber, but if it lasts even a month I'll be happy. was maybe 15-20 minutes total yankin each one, masking it, and lettin loose with the ol Krylon noisy can.
I gotta say its a freakin' breath of FRESH air. I was gettin sick of those things.....looks so much more shagyful now. Next Im gonna get some stencils and make my own white lettering!!! :hick:  :screwy:
Well, at least you won't have to apply tire shine anymore...
just wax. :shakeass:
... I really can't think of anything else to say.
wow, all i can say is you really wanted to shed that reputation as the whitewall guy. now your the spraypainted sidewall guy.:toilet:
Now, clean your wheelwells!
Now THATS something a little different...
I wonder if the paint could unbalance the wheels...
And get some proper length tailpipes. :hick:
Painted tires...... WOW........
I cant even think of a comment..... Looks a HELL of a lot better, but will probably only be very short lived....
i seriously doubt u could apply that much paint on only one part of your wheel to imbalance it enough to feel it. usually if a whell is .25 oz off u wont even feel it. so thats how much more paint needs to be on ONE PART of the tire to feel a difference. you gotta figure, if its spread evenly, it wont effect balance, it needs to blotted up on one part
we do that to go cart tires it lasts even in burnouts and sliding!!
Now that you've got 'em black, pul them off and install wider tires. Those belong on a small trailer.Too skinny, like the 6 cyl cars and their 14 inch wheels..They do look........better.
OMFG I'm laughing so hard it hurts right now.
Will definitely clean the wells...I dunno never thought to do that but VERY good point.
And the tails...well I was lazy pep boys had that, I will get on summit and get the right length ones though....sometime....:hick:
LMAO @ paint unbalance the wheels...you NEVER know though....then ur goin 90 and youre checking if you hit the wake-up strip on the side of the highway!!!
Thanks for the positive evidence Mason!!! I chuckled when I read that...i went "Ahh wouldnt ya know it SOMEONE other than me has done this with success"
Dont worry everyone! Slowly but surely.....I will make my way above mediocrity and become an upstanding car enthusiast.:hick:
Updates to come re: the durability of the paint. I layed it on THICK lol so we'll see
I used Mustang tails and extended them a little.
think is worse
We had a nice light coat, make for shiny tire, and taking a corner locked up the tire and almost fold it over, it wouldn't crack
I knew a guy from Mississippi that painted his work shoes brown when they were lookin' worn.
I don't think anyone's reputation has ever been salvaged by painting their tires :hick:
Joking apart, it looks good. I only wonder if the paint will stick - unless you used a flexible paint it's probably going to crack and flake all to hell.
Why don't you just take the car to a tire shop and have 'em flip the tires around on the rims?
My cousin saw em last year and said they looked cupped and I should flip em around....so I did. Went to pick em up at the shop......surprise!!!!!
We use to paint the white walls on the costomers cars when they got them new and wanted the white walls in.
It lasts for a long time.
Ok, if they were cupped or not what did flipping them around do? It is still the same tires, they will still be cupped. and IF they were, you have serious suspension problems to address, not turning your tires. You want to remove the cups? Do a burnout til they are smoothed out.;)
You can reverse the direction of the tire and it will flatten out the cupping on the tire. We did that alot when I was working at the tire shops.
Hmm. Well I don't think it was *that* bad, it was around the time I was aggravated by this clunk noise when I'd hit the brakes. Ended up my cousin and his friend with a ball joint kit put in some new TRW units I bought. Did nothing. I even had a shop check out the suspension, he said he put a massive pry bar everywhere he could....couldn't find anything wrong. My cousin thought something was wrong in the suspension at the time and figured that might have caused the cupping, as you said RJ, and he said you might as well once this is over, flip the tires.
Turns out.......my friggin dual exhaust I put on with the H.O. conversion was banging the rear control arms!!!!!!! So I played with it a little.....problem solved. The ball joints werent a lot of $$$ either, and they have grease fittings which I put new grease in relentlessly too often, so I think theyll be good for a little while :D.
Man never thought painting my tires would lead to that!!! Whew!!! Oh well gotta set everyone straight. LOL
That's something different:hick:
I think next weekend I'll hit the bumper trim...REALLY sick of lookin at the yellow!!! :barf:
Thank god for bumper trim paint:hick: . I don't know why Ford just didn't mold the bumpers in black instead of yellow. It would have saved them the cost of painting the rub strips. Plus you wouldn't see ses or nicks so easily.
Yeah Ive wondered the same thing many times. Personally I wish the gov't never effected plastic bumpers!! LOL but seriously I hate plastic on cars fortunately these are before plastic side-cladding :yuck:
I was thinking you would of spray the whole sides of the tires white and tapped of the rest of it.
Clean the wheel wells and spray paint those as well i have never thought of doing that so i don't know what to say because sometimes i do off the wall stuff. Looks good now buy a little more paint and finish the job with those wheel wells.
Which is worse Zonda ? putting Y piped duals on a 99 or painting your tires on the 87 you decide.
