That, of course I'd have to sell the '88 and lend money from the bank or my dad, its perfect, black, XR7, 5 spd., leather, sunroof, sounds like an ad! I really, really want it!
So should I get it or keep the '88 and do some performance mods?
that's a sharp looking car! was that car equipped from the factory with that motor, or is it a swap?
That is alot of miles. Car looks good though
I think its factory, pretty sure.
Yeah the car is in really good shape for enduring our winters! The only way I could buy the car is by having my mom buy it for a DD and then give it to me cause she can't drive stick, that way she could drive the '88 and I would have two Cougars! Well partially anyway.
Three words.
Black hides rust.
You'd have to check it out first before jumping to any conclusions. It does look very nice though. My boss had a red one with black leather interior. She traded it on a Five-Hundred :fart:
nice car but i feel the price is high for the miles
I never knew any Cougars were Supercharged... :dunno:
They were Mercury's version of the Super Coupe and were only available for 1989 & 1990. Then in 1991 they were "dumbed down" and were just more or less a basic Cougar with the HO 5.0 engine.
They are pretty rare, especially a 1990 model with the 5-speed.
1989 XR-7 total production - 4,780
2,101 manual trans. / 2,679 automatic
1990 XR-7 total production - 4,156
823 manual trans. / 3,333 automatic

wow.
if no rust, i say jump on it. if not, i think you'll regret it.
I jumped on the '88 and got a shiznit load of rust, and I paid waaaayyy too much for it, about 3 months after I bought it about 3 or 4 '88s went on the market for 800-900, I paid 2,500 for this one. :flame:
The ONLY other one of those Ive ever seen was in the junkyard. Im not sure if it was a 89 or 90 but it was a 5 speed and had something like 230,000 miles. It was a sad site definately, but it had been driven well at least and not just junked at 70,000 or something because some idiot didnt feel like changing head gaskets.
They are a very rare car. Of the less than 3,000 5 speeds made how many do you think are still on the road? You know a lot of people dont bother to change the head gaskets on them so that thins the herd out pretty good.
Those would become a true piece of ford´s car history in the next years, even more with the manual tranny (just think how many cougars before 1993 have manual transmision)
The price , is a bit high. For here is normal to pay (and i´ll pay if i had the money) 5,000 or even 6´000 USD for a 93 SC´ed Cougar in good condition.
Those engines have 315lb/ft of torque ! i wonder if those can break 140 MPH.
According to the SCCOA website:
"Stock 89-95 M5R2 equipped SC’s and 89-90 XR7’s run anywhere from 140-
145 mph. Stock AOD and 4R70W equipped SC’s and XR7’s can approach
135-140 mph, but become rev limited around that speed."Brent

! Why did you have to tell me it was rare? Now I really want it! I'd love to have it but I bet it sold already, if not I guess I could call the guy and take it for a test flight to see how it goes..
just be ready to pay the prices of parts when something like plugs comes up. or the altinator. my brother got a 94 sc. the alt was 100+ at his cost and wasnt to fun of a job he said. and the plugs were the worst set he has ever done. he said it was almost impossable to do the p=side but managed to do it by hand. but after he did the plugs wow did the car run
