I just got a free alt (score!) from a kid I know. He gave it to me because it wasn't chrome. But the problem is we both have no clue what it is from. His car is a 65 Stang, but it was a 95 motor, and the alt was remanufactured. I think it's a 3G, based on looks, but what I want to know is the amps. All I have is a part number, but it doesn't check out on the Motorcraft site.
# F77U-10316-AA
Any decoding I tried came up as it coming from a 97 Ranger SVT. (F7=97, 7= Ranger, U= Special Vehical Operations)
any pics?
No, sorry. My brother has the camera at college, but if I can borrow one from a friend, I'll get some.
Going to take it to Autozone tonight and see if they will test it and tell me how many amps its making.
it's from a 2000 f250.

I saw that, but when I looked at the alts for that type, I still didn't find the number. Autozone tried to look it up too, but no luck. This is getting really confusing....
Look for some other numbers...I believe that is just the part number for the regulator.
Sorry it took a while. Here are some pics. Haven't found any other numbers on it, but I have to run by the Ford dealer tommarrow, so I'll talk to the parts department.
Looks just like the 130-amp 3G in my car (I ordered it for a '95 5.0 Mustang)
