Title: ecu question
Post by: 88foxt on February 13, 2005, 05:08:50 PM
Will a Mustang 5peed ecu work on a car with an automatic?
I own an 86 5speed gt but I want to put the engine in my 88 TBird Sport and keep it auto. The car will also remain s/d . The engine is in better condition than the SO in my TBIRD.

With speed density i could say definetly but with mass air i've heard all kinds of stories about stalling when coming to a light and other idle problems due to the stick computer not richining the mixture enough to compensate for the fluid lag of the auto.

Maybe the 5spd is a better option , thanks

The Bird would be more fun with the 5 speed, but IF the stick puter caused problems(I seriously doubt it) auto versons of the SD are dirt cheap..

I believe the reported stalling problems are due to the speed sensor not being installed, and/or connected. It will keep the idle speed up about 300 rpms untill the car completely stops... I've run a A9L 5 speed Mass Air processor in my Bird and it seemed the same as the A9P I normally use... I have my idle speed set at 950 in gear because of my slightly grumpy cam, so maybe thats why I didn't have a problem...
