Ok, I'll start this off by saying this. This is a progress thread. Not some bs like the last one. If I wash the car, it doesn't make it on here. No " guess what I thought of" , no random thoughts. Only phycical work. If you have a problem with something I do, please don't trash the entire thread because of it. Oppions and ideas are fine but please, no personal stabs or any " why did you do that to the car...." stuff. With that, I give you a few progress pics of the last week or so:

Also done but not shown:
Dropped fuel tank
Removed intank pump
Ran new fuel line up driver side
Mechanical fuel pump
Removed all old fuel line
Started to paint underhood but ran out of paint for the day
Started to wire relay for E fan but ran out of light/got cold outside
P.S.
If you can see/guess what I did to the air cleaner lid, I'll give a free rep out of it;)
what are those valve covers off of?
looking better man!
84-85 Mustang. part number E4ZE. I only did a quick sanding, some steel woll, flat black paint then sanded the fins to give it a FRPP valve cover look
Coming along.....Clean the engine bay!
Nice work.Take your time and do things right the first time.
Nice improvement Fila.................Now thats progress.
As soon as I get more paint, the engine compartment will be a solid coat of flat black. Cleaned, scrubbed then painted. Tomorow I hope to also get the rest of the fuel lines done and the E fan in and functioning
That is a great improvement. But I think you should give me that car while you are in basic training. ;)
brian
Hey, you can take it if you come get it and you work on it:flip:
Ok, with alittle help from Jacssity this is what we came up with for a realy for an E fan. It's the fuel pump realy from my car.

looks good man hows it run with the carb? . im so jelious of you and those covers i wanted to run them for YEARS! but had a v6 and then when i got the stang couldnt find them. you could polish up the fins a little more to make them pop. but a most deff improvment man
also you know what helps clean up the engine bay alot is the rubber dizzy covers.
That's starting to look like a nice engine, Mikey. Good work.(http://warcrafty.com/spiff/e/thumbup.gif)
Thanks for the comments guys!!!
As for the valve covers, all I did so far was paint them, skuff the paint on the fins and hit them quick with a nice bit of clear coat. Enough to keep them safe for not but not enough where I can never go back and sane to pollish up.
If you think this is good, I got more coming. Like hiding wiring, cleanin up all the connecters.... lots of little stuff that will add up
I'm going to guess you painted the air cleaner flat black.
you used steelwool to remove the rust on the aircleaner :hick: then you cleared it for protection ;)
Hey I thought equal length shorty headers had issues with our cars? I have a set of MAC ones laying around I may put to use now....
Graham... Nope. I steelwool on the valve covers. They had some " funky" stuff on them.
RJ... I've had teh equal legnth's for a while. They do fit but it's very close on the shifter linkage.
My only suggestion is to replace the fuel pump. I had the same one on my car, and after changing the heads, cam, intake and switching to the 4 barrell it wasn't enough. When I would punch it from a dead stop, it would get to about 45 and then lean out. I have since switched to this one SUM-250024-1 from Summit. I haven't had it back to the track yet, and won't this year. But just from playing around with it at my buddy's house (he has a really long drive way) it has made a huge improvement. Also it is a direct replacement.
is that fuel filter off a lawnmower?
Engine is really looking nice Mikey.
It's been a while since I've seen it, I'm impressed.
that's the cleanest i've ever seen you engine bay. nice job, man.
Wow... wish mine looked like that!
Looks a LOT better now Mikey. Did you move that Rustang symbol from the hood bracing onto the top of the air cleaner lid?
+1!!! Just a stupid little thing I did.
Nope, a NAPA universal carb fuel filter. Cheapest money cab buy. Better to come later
No ya don't;)
why put MUSTANG symbol on the air cleaner lid. Wishing you had a real ford now are you? J/P. Im starting a job sometime this week i HOPE, so ill have money to send that carb your way!!
Bro, i told ya I'd cover that carb. And everything else. Good news for you though, I found a 88? LSC floatin around my town. Grey with grey int. Talked to the guy at Mikey D's and got his number. I'll try to see if he has a parts stash for ya.
Back to the thread....I haven't done much. Gathering parts for my next few ideas. I hope to try to clean up the 85-6 tail light lenses and have them test fitted on soon enough
OK then ill get it boxed and a price on shipping for you asap!
and thanks PM me if you find out anything!
Will do Mini-me. I'll try to snag some pics as well
Got all the lights working for the first time since I've owned the car. Ever light, including the keyless and int/dash lights works. Figured you guys would like to see

Hey Daboss, what do you mean "a real Ford".Thunderbirds have been around quite a bit longer than the Stangs.I'll be waiting for an opology on behalf of all of us Thunderbird owners here on the Thunderbird Cougar forum (I didn't read Mark VII up in the banner anywhere). You have a Mark VII,so,technically, you should be over at the Mark VII board, not here..........with the Lincoln guys. So,opologize now,or,I'm buying a plane ticket, flying up there, kicking your a$$,then,I'm going to pee on your car.......and make you watch."A real Ford",that is not cool.My Sport has lost all respect for you.
"Real Ford"????? Hmmmph!! We're the "Forgotten Fords & Mercs" by most, especially aftermarket companies, but definitely "REAL Fords"
:beatyoass: :flame: :beatyoass: :nono: :slap: :moon: :nutkick: :bricks1:
P.S. waiting for apollogy
i think everyone should chip in a couple bucks and buy fila a real digi cam so we don't have to look at his cell phone pics. haha.
I'm waiting to buy a new one... the ond one died the other day. In top of loosing the cord for it, the dog chewed the camara.
the cord for my laptop is almost all electrical tape now. when my husky was a puppy, he had the bad habit of chewing. :beatyoass:
St. Benerd. I'm hoping to get a new camara soon. Only issue with that is stop workin on the car and blow the money for a cam or use the money on the car and use teh camaraphone
it's your money, man. i'm just giving you a hard time. if money were tight for me, i'd use it on the car for sure.
You could use the money to,uh, I don't know....let me think....uhhhh...hm..lost my train of thought.
Time for BS.
hahaha Guys I said J/P i was busting his balls i like t birds
I only said it cause you guys call them RUSTANGS all the time, and i hate that. Talking like chevy guys!
So,Daboss, you're now supporting the Chevy guys I see.We see how you are.You might as well just step all the way out of the closet,you....you.....Chevy lover (I'm sure you'll deny everything and act like you support us Ford/Mercury guys).LOL.
I'm confused now..... I said you guys act like chevy guys
You guys are trashing on the young mans goals... he HAS been trying please help him out, not jack his thread.
Yeah, keep this thread only about what the title is which is the progress of the Fila, no need to go off on tangents about chewed up cords or ford vs chevy..
Good job Fila nice work its gonna look real good when it is done... keep us updated on any new pics..
This thread has gone down the tubes...again.
Good job Mikey! Looking good. Have you removed all power components from the car? Hows the interior coming along?
It did get a little lost.easy to correct.back to the Fila project.Nothing more. After looking at old pics of the engine bay,and the snake pit of wires and other....srtuff,it really has come a long way.I'll be happy when I can see a cool burnout shot of this car for the first time.
Well, after I do some fuel line tomorow ( rubber line... meh) then we'll see vin man. Thats my big plan for tomorow.
As for the thread it can drift a bit just not too far. All about the car, why I did something, why I want to so something... just not too far off please. I REALLY want to try to document everything I'm doing to the car, and keep everyone that wants to know informed
Roger that.
Started it but not with out another problem arising. There is a VERY loud knock when the motor is running. Even when it turns over. I assume the fuel pump ( mechanical). I can't figure out why or think of anything else it could be. Other then that all new fuel lines in, motor cleaned up and running, new timing chain in.... a productive day
when you say "knock", is it like rod knock?
Like fuel pump. I rigged a high pressure pump up to test that, removed the mechanical pump and it stopped. Not sure what I did wrong, there is only one way to put in a fuel pump. I forgot a gasket on the timing cover anyways so it's coming back off so I can check this out ( RTV FTW!!!) Will report back in a bit
forgot the gasket!!! Your slipping man!! Why is there always time to do it twice, but never enough time to do it right the first time?
enough busting on you, Glad to hear your getting it done man! Hurry up! At this rate the hot rod lincoln might be done before you!
I didn't forget as much as I didn't put enough RTV on one side. It will be done by the end of the night. I think I figured out the prolem with the knock as well
Good, glad to hear!
I think the arm on the fuel pump is slightly bent downward.
For the record everyone,, that fuel pump came from my 306 with a cam. If my blueracer cam "broke in" the fuel pump arm so to speak, its possible that filas cam/bell isnt "mated" to this fuel pump. I would guess there is a gap in between the fuel pump arm and the bell when the fuel pump is in the rest position.
long story short, compare that fuel pump to a new one and see if the arm is bent downward. Ill bet it is.
If not,, then ask if there is a canadian fuel pump for that year car and compare it to a new US fuel pump. There just might be a technical issue here because your cam is for CFI,, (atleast i think there is a difference)
From what you said on the phone, the more I think about it the cam mating sounds right. I'm about to tear into this to find out so if anyone watchin will be on in an hour, I'll have pics then
EDIT:
Pics tomorow, It got cold out and I just don't wana work on the car at night.
fuel pump eccentric
My guess is the bolt may be loose or backed out
Verdict??????
Worked today, just not on the car. I snagged a few pics on my way out though. I fully plan to work on it today though.
Halo's in. They really make my seats look worse. They arn't dyed to match the seats as I'm giving up on the white leather idea. I'm perfectly fine with a raven leather set. So they stay grey

A half-way decient side shot
(http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r9/84fila/Fila/DSC00173.jpg)
And a front shot, miss colored ( I don't think it's original to the car) and freshly repainted headlight buckets.
P.S. the hood just isn't closed all the way, thats why there's a uber big gap there
(http://i140.photobucket.com/albums/r9/84fila/Fila/DSC00174.jpg)
I like the Halos,it's the seats that look like .Are you going to replace the driver side door?
Eventualy, when it gets paint. I'm not sure if it's too bad to save the door or not really. Anything is worth a shot I guess
i'm not digging the halo's on the seats. the headlight bezels look great though. the car is definitely coming along. it may take a while, but someday it will be what you want it to be.
Keep chugging at it, at least yours is mechanically closer to being able to drive then mine.
I'm figuring out the fuel pump away from done. I don't know how much longer I wana fight with it. I've been trying to dodge the bullet of a nice Holley or carter E pump from day one, and I've about had it. I pulled it and there is nothing that mechanicaly apeares to be wrong. It has good pump action out of the car, yet in the car all the thing does is click/knock. I duno.
have you checked the push rod for the pump>?
It looks fine. The Fuel Pump Ecentric is on tight, pump only goes in one way. I duno. I got LOTS of other work I can be doing but I kinda liked having a running car
I dont know man, just get a block off plate, reg, and a e pump. Problem solved.
I just got an Email to someone who saw my craigslist post about a set of ford heads. $100 for a set of P heads. Now before I just on these, I know they will "work" but I'm not sure about the headers. Anyone think mine will work with the swap?
I'd ask a lot of questios. That's pretty cheap for a set of heads.I'd use the headers for the P heads. Those heads have a different plug angle. You may need new plug wires as well.
I have a correct set of lug wires. The only question is will the Mac's work. And if now what will. I'd rather have a set of GT40's as I KNOW they will work with what I got. I'll just take the hit in power
The *P* heads need specific headers. MAC and Ford Racing make some (I use the Ford Racing ones). If you use *P* headers you will NOT need new plug wires. I run the standard Ford Racing 9mm wires with no interference problems. The headers you have will not work as the plugs stick pretty much straight out instead of being angled back. I'd be a little leary of a set of *P* heads for $100 though.......
Well, it's $100 and a Holley carb I gots layin around.
How much were the P speicfic heades? Is it really worth it to put them on over GT40's?
*P* specific headers from Ford Racing are about ~$250 but they are stainless steel and won't rust. Are *P* heads worth it over regular GT40s? Depends on who you talk to. From what I've found stock they flow a bit more air on the intake (almost 200 cfm stock) and exhaust than the regular GT40s. They also have smaller combustion chambers than the regular GT40s (~60cc vs ~63cc) giving you a slight bump in compression. They will make a bit more power than regualr GT40s when set up right. The headers for them cost more than what you're paying for the heads so you have to decide if the heads are worth it. It still sounds cheap for GT40Ps to me. I'd atleast have them checked by a machiene shop and serviced before bolting them on.
