...and it's not pretty. I actually blew a hole through the front case when the bearing let go :hick:
It actually isn't all that bad. The trans needs a new cluster, seals, and bearings. The gears and shafts are fine. Need a clutch though :D Should be all together and on the road again by Friday.

I couldn't afford all the broken parts you have to deal with.
Mike, what strip is that?? It doesn't look like PIR or SIR. Did they put a new one in somewhere in between???

It's PIR. Surprisingly racing is not what killed it. Nissan MTX tranny's have a design flaw with the front cover which also acts as the front bearing retainer. So the recall piece is going on and that will solve the problem. Most break by 100K, so 140K out of mine is pretty good ;)
It broke on I5 at 60mph in 5th with the cruise on of all places. Still made it home! (In 4th :hick: )
I'm actually getting away kinda cheap on this one.
Been there, done that (including limping home in 4th), bought the T-shirt. Is the recall on the whole problem (that bearing design), or will they only replace the case half? Seems to me that if the failure is because of the design flaw and there's a recall (essentially admitting the flaw) it should all be free. There was no recall when mine failed...
Recall for the whole thing is only good to 100K, so I'm 40K over. I sure wouldn't expect them to do it, it's 11 years old and I'm the 3rd or 4th owner at least.
