I just picked up an 88 TC and the eq power button is broken or something. I can push it in and the eq turns on and works great but if you take your finger off the button, it turns back off. Is there a way to fix it or replace it, or am I going to have to super glue it down. I took it apart tonight to try to fix it, but I couldn't get that switch apart.
jam the button lol
You will more than likely have to replace the switch.. Its soldered to the board. I'm sure if you pick up a small electronic parts catalog you can find one that will fit.
When I had mine, I just soldered the thing to always be on. It turns on/off with the radio so I'm not sure why it even has a switch.
Yeah, I think I'm just going to glue it. I'll have to take it back out when I get some glue to do it though. Put it back in so I could have the radio working, lol
Super Glue will fornicate it up, NEVER use that stuff near anything electrical that has contacts(switches, relays)...
The switch is made specially for that application, good luck on finding a replacement...
Take a black zip tie and wedge it on the bottom side of the switch between the button and bezel... Carefully cut off what's hanging out, you'll never notice it...
Black paper clip bend it around and make it hold i took out my EQ last month heres how i had mine except a black paper clip most people never see.
Heres a picture cheapest fix i found for good sound for less than a few cents.
The one in my car works :)
I've had it suggested to jam a toothpick in there and break it off. A little touch on the end with a Sharpie and you'll never see it. Never tried it myself, but there you go...some food for thought.
I like Tom's idea though.
All i can say is lucky mine was broke when i got the car 3 years back but its ok because i got this new EQ. I had to move the cig light panel and rotozip some stuff and then remove the metal bracket behind the trim so not to say that its not a toal PITA and i still gotta get it installed a little cleaner but its if you know what your doing it could be worth all the time and money to do. Just nice to not have the STOCK EQ buttom and a PAPER CLIP any longer.
well I tried the superglue before I saw that post, but it didn't work. I managed to melt the outside part of the switch to the inner part of the switch with a soldering iron. It works perfect now:hick:
well now its fubared. Have to turn the volume up all the way to even hear it, and I cant get the button unstuck to see if thats the problem, so now I'm going to start looking for another one:punchballs:
I jam 2 nickels up in the lip of thetrim around the EQ. THey hold the button in firm... I've yet to find one at a yard where that button isn't broke.
Jim and I found an EQ in a Aerostar.. He said it was different so he took it apart to pull the button out. Thats when I found out it is just a little switch soldered to a PCB. Later I showed him that it was the same unit.. just with a longer harness on the back.. So yeah check out Aerostars too.
How much would you pay for my EQ? works fine except the button will add in like 50 paperclips so it should work for years to come.
Offer? for my EQ if you want it or need it
sounds like crystal may have one in her pile of parts. If not she knows a good junkyard that has them. Just easier to go get it than to pay to ship stuff. If I cant find one, I'll pm you
I got a regular radio and the PS amp, but no EQ. Sorry man. I'll keep my eyes out as well
anybody have a wiring diagram for inside the eq so I can find out what I need to do to have it work for now. Going on a long trip tomorrow in it and would like to have a radio. Or can someone tell me which of these 8 terminals to solder together on this switch? Help needed ASAP!!!
well i managed to wittle the switch down far enough I could get it apart and see what contacts needed to be soldered together. I think it will work from now on(crossing fingers:D )
The switch is a real cheap part at any electronics store. I had it replaced a while back for $25 including labor. (because I don't trust myself with a soldering iron)
