Title: 1988 Bird
Post by: JKATHRE on February 13, 2005, 12:49:34 PM
1988 Bird. Picture does more justice to it. 108,000 miles--one owner. Hope to keep it for some time to come. Never has stranded us. The fuel pump quit in our driveway after a local trip in nasty weather. In 2002 went around Lake Superior with it--a 2000 mile trip.

Looks to be in great shape.  Not a big fan of the wire wheel/white wall look, but I guess it's original.

Thanks for the comments.  We settled on the wire wheels.  I didnt like the plastic covers that were original.  I suppose we could do better, but the current are OK.

Actually, those wire covers should be original. The plastic covers were more likely aftermarket.
Also, weren't mud flaps a standard thing on these cars? The previous owner may have taken them off.

Very nice machine with nice options. I see that it has cornering lamps, illuminated entry, and is that an auto lamp "eye" on the rear-view mirror?

Pretty sure they weren't. I rarely ever see one with mudflaps

Looks good, although I'm so very not fond of brown. Must make it look less dirty though ;)

Oh, I like that 5.0---that's what I have in the other Ford car (not a T-Bird).  Looks like it just is minus the pin stripes.  Ya- brown, not the best, not the worst.  I sure see lots of whites out there.  There is a T Bird on Auto trader and the guy labelled it purple.  I am sure it is this color.  I showed it to the wife and she said---that isnt purple, that's the brown color.  I almost didnt get it--I thought it was a repaint at first glance.
Yes, this has auto lamp and dimmer option.  The auto lamp sensor is on the dash---I am spoiled by that as I rarely use the headlamp switch in either car.  The only option I would like--never had as yet--a moonroof.  So far, no dreaded head gasket failure as I see so much talk of--for the 3.8.  Maybe it was limited to a particular assembly plant location?

there was a purple brown color. I think that it is a take on the bmw's purple color. Its called midnight wine.
