Has anyone done this? It looks JC Whitney still has the weatherstripping the PDF calls for.
I think bearmax did with the vert'
Yup, I did it on the Bird about a month ago. It only took like an hour! And they look great! Until this forum, I thought those dew-wipes were doomed to look horrible. If you want pics, I can get them.
brian
Sure, if it's not too much trouble. Would love to see how they look before taking the plunge.
I'm dreading having to do that, mine leak like crazy so i have to. Let me know how it goes.
Ya, I want to see them too. That's another thing on my "To Do List for The Bird"
Well, another item to be stockpiling from the boneyard.I'm buying all the good ones.
mine are in perfect condition. :dunno:
Mine are ok I guess
Mine are NOS. :flip:
Seriously...most of the stuff needed for 1983-86 cars are available via JC Whitney. Nothing to worry about.
The 1987-88 owners, though...you're screwed big time.
Eric, are you atlking about the ranger dew wipes that we can modify or actual T-bird dew wipes?? I haven't seen anything but the ranger ones.
John
OK, here ya go. Let me know if you need them in a different view or whatever. I'll get them for ya.
brian
hmph....car looks dirty in these pics. oh well
What shifter is that, it's awsome. Can I get a pic of that please
Can you elaborate? (especially since I have an '87)
ooooohhh mikey,
when I first got to this site, I put pics of the interior in the thread. Also there might be a couple in the for sale section.
brian
Ok, thanks
looks like a B&M Quicksilver
DING! DING! We have a winner! I guess I could have said that in the last thread.......sorry
brian
No, the ones mentioned in that article are universal but are correct for the 1983-86 Cougar/T-Bird. At JC Whitney (http://www.jcwhitney.com) is it p/n WG819745T.
The dew wipes on 1987-88 cars were molded into the window trim, presumably to cut costs but also because of the flush glass. The 1983-86 cars (and all Mark VII's) are two piece, where the dew wipe can be separated from the trim and be replaced. I have never found a good solution for 1987-88 cars, other than swapping trim from a car with better dew wipes.
I see good ones all the time,so,I say again,I'm going to start stockpiling them.
I've never actually seen an 87-88 car with bad dew wipes. They seem to last forever :dunno:
I'll second that. Mine are doin pretty well :D
The ones in my '87 look pretty good.
The ones in my '85 were beyond dead 8 years ago!
I've lost a short section (1-1/4") of the driver's side so I'm looking to replace it if possible.
Oddly enough the ones that came off the '83 bird vent window doors seem nearly perfect, However this:

concerns me.
It looks like some kind of tensioner or something, Kind of a felty material? is this really needed? It was a bit rusty on the posted guide as well... And i didnt see him put them back on or replace them.
Mine are original and in great condition. This article makes me want to pull my vertical moldings and re-paint them though.
I didn't put those back on my doors and didn't have any problems with the lining up or anything. That was the only trick parts of the whole thing. I tried to reuse them but it didn't work out to well.
Brian
how do you get the track off the door? the article makes it sound so simple, just grab and pull. but i cant really get the track to start coming down. do i just give it all i got and pull? something just doesnt feel right about that
started doing the qurter windows on my ver yesterday
I guess I shouldn't have taken that set of 88 ones and modded them to work on my 84.
