Title: Balance ring?
Post by: tireshredder on August 30, 2007, 08:22:18 PM
I looked under my car, and there was a big metal ring on the drivehaft.....just sitting there.  Guy at work said it was a balancer on the front yoke.  Can I just get it replaced, since it was cracked, or do I need a whole new front yoke?  And while I'm at it, are there any "performance"  driveshafts out there for Tbirds?

just take the ring off, it wont hurt anything. and you can always have a custom shaft made, but nobody i know has any t-bird specific driveshafts "in stock".

Thats a vibration dampener. Just like the dogbone hanging from the pumpkin.

So all it might do is make it shake a little bit more?  Safe to drive 30 miles a day?

There hasn't been one on my yoke in 7 years... Took the hack saw and cut it in two...

I took mine off about 1 year ago and lost a vibration that I had. The old car never had them so why did our cars need it?

Strangely enough my old 'Bird never had one...ran smooth as silk.
