Question: should i stay or should i go?
Title: seriously, wtf?
Post by: turboranger91 on August 30, 2007, 09:05:39 AM
i've been deemed a post w.  this is so f*cking retarded.  i now have a big red bar under my name.  i've never seen a forum act like this.

i'll put it to a vote then:

if you think that i actually do post w in a negative way and deserve this , i'll leave and never come here again.

if you thing that i actually do know what i'm talking about and can offer help and insight to some of the novices, and want me to stick around, i will.

I cant say I've ever seen that red bar before.  Are you sure it's not someone just joking around?

EDIT:  It seemed to be clarified nicely in the other thread you made

Post whoring is post whoring, it is never good.  dont need to have 15 posts in one thread asking stupid questions.  That is what PMs are for.  There are alot of post ws on here, and they know who they are, just look through any of the thread and see.....  and they aren't adding usefull info either, just sayin shiznit.

I think you should hang out. I haven't seen you be to much of a post w. I've seen alot more from others. Your newer on here and want to jump in and make a name for your self. No biggie. But just be patient. This board is free so they have to limit it some how. Now if we were like other sites that had paying members or like turbo ford got so much from each sale made though the board. That would help to pay for a better server so we didn't have to limit it so much. I would think that if we had a flat rate of say $1.00 per sale that would help. Maybe even a small percentage like taxes but a lot less. Besides as long as you don't have a bunch of thread jacking post or plain ole  I say POST POST POST until your heart is content!
PS I see you have the RED BAR!!!! I'm shaking my finger at you right now! Bad little Turbo ranger BAD! LOL What does that bar mean any way? I have one little dark green square. Does that mean I only get one piece of GUM?

I don't know you from Adam and I could care less about the idiotic rating system. I'd never have noticed unless you pointed it out. Every other site that I've been on that had systems like this had to eliminate them due to childish abuses/clique formation. I consider such things utterly meaningless and think they unintentionally promote post whoring.

I could care less if you're a post w. Freaking out about it is annoying though.

The red bar and the "post w" thing are completely unrelated. The red bar is an indicator of a user's reputation - all users, yourself included, can give "rep points" to other users based on their posts. My guess would be the red bar is a result of the racist comment you made (which was deleted before I woke up this morning) in the PT cruiser thread. The "REP" system is completely voluntary. You can "opt out" of the rep system and have the bar removed by going into your profile, going to "edit options", and deselecting "show my reputation level".

As for the "post w" thing - it was already explained in the other thread and does not need further clarification. 10 posts per day (or 70 per week, or ~300 per month, or ~3,650 per year) is NOT an unreasonable limit if you make the posts worthwhile.
Really, you've been "spanked with a feather". You haven't been banned, you haven't had any board features taken away. You've simply been restricted in the number of posts you can make per day, and by anyone else's standards your restriction would still be considered very generous. If you choose to waste your limited number of posts by complaining that you can't post often enough that's your own problem. The rest of us, well, we'll only have to see 10 complaints per day anyway...

By the way, remember when I said the script "learns" and adjusts your limits as you adjust your behaviour? My guess would be that you're not getting yourself any closer to having the limits raised...

I will say this in response to your PM (I would not normally publicize a PM, but since your suggestion would affect everybody, everybody has a right to see my response): Eric, Baxo and myself have absolutely no interest in charging admission to this board so that we can be hosted on a dedicated server (which can cost hundreds per month) so that a select few can post whatever they want whenever they want. The FTBCF was started by an enthusiast for enthusiasts, and although ownership changed hands a few years ago we're going to keep it that way. It isn't about making money, which is why you see no advertisp00gets or "paid member" bullshiznit on this site. For 99.99% of the board members it works fine. It's slow sometimes, but hey, it's free.

I'll also point out that it isn't all about bandwidth. It is about keeping the forums running smoothly, and keeping them running smoothly means keeping them tidy. For every post you make complaining that you can't post enough I get 10 PM's complaining that people are cluttering up the boards with nonsense (not all complaints are against you, but the others know who they are). All the time I get messages with "Why can't the board be like it used to be?"

I guess we admins share part of the blame for letting it get out of hand. We've been conspicuously light on the moderator duties - very few threads are ever locked, only extremely rarely is a post ever deleted outright, and in the history of the board we've only had one banning (besides spammers) and he was literally begging for it. This is not going to change. What IS going to change is the fact that a few members have been making this forum all about them. This is not a blog. It isn't a chat room. Yes, we have a "lounge" section for off-topic discussions, but some people have been abusing it (as well as making off topic posts in others' threads in other sections). That is not going to happen anymore. Deal with it.

I've edited the poll, added a fourth option. At the time of editing there were four votes for "stay" and three for "don't care".

Dude... just suck it up. I'm a " post w" but I still get by. It's a forum, you take shiznit from some people, you get along with others. Have some fun, enjoy your stay, and stop being such a cooch about it. Christ if you saw half the hazing and  I went through in the early to mid time I've been here.......

so people have opinions about you, big deal man. A while back I made a thread offering a ridiculous amount of reputation points for whoever can make fun of me the best. Whether or not you should stay on this board is your choice man. If people don't like what you have to say, they can simply ignore you.

i dont have much to add to this thread other than what thunder chicken said except to ask why you DONT think you are actin like a post w?

this very thread is an example of the very definition of post w. quit wastin all our time. jus cause YOU dont have anything better to do than post insignificant  here, doesnt mean the rest of us have an equal amount of time to sift thru it all.

so stay if you wish, but cut the  and start makin a meaningful contribution.

I just noticed the red bar the other day.  That is weird.

I say stay, and if people have complained about you being a post w, they should probly turn to the "Real" ones first.  I know many who are more annoying than you (You know who you are )  And dont let it get to you. Just turn your rep off. too easy.

And that just shows how respectful and nice people are around here.  We all try to get along.  There are minor disagreements, but they are hashed out for the most part.

I don't get the whole post whoring thing. Who really gives a rodents an00s how many posts someone has? If it's meaningless drivel, hell I'm as guilty as anyone of trying (unsucessfully most of the time) to be funny. I also try to help when I can and I ask questions when I need answers. That's what this sort of community is about. Sure things go off topic once in a while, that's just people being who they are. If we can't loosen up at least that much this place is gonna get boring pretty quick.

So, TR, Go, stay, laugh it off, piss it off, whatever makes you comfortable.

Everybody else, lighten up.

or I'm gonna start throwing pies

hhhhmmmmm.... can ya make it apple pies??? Thems my favorite. :D

I'm not voting... I mean, come on! If you want to stay, stay and quit whining about the whole post w thing. Start posting stuff that is relevant and the script thingy will loosen it's hold on you as Carm said. If you keep posting this kind of stuff, you'll never get above the 10 post hold.

This board is a huge refreshment over all the over-strict boards out there.  The second anything goes off topic, stuff gets locked.  If people get in any sort of argument, it gets immediately locked.  Here, people can work things out and actually be people, not question answering robots.  That's the good thing of having a small community that isn't filled with immature whiny babies.

There may be a lot of people all with about the same car or cars that still will never think all the same way. Its nice 2 have this site just to have some pictures and to be able to ask questions if you need 2 do a project. So i say limit it a little or take a break maybe a week or 2 then come back if you made some poeple mad give them a few days to get over it. As long as you got a :birdsmily: or :cougarsmily: i think you should stay and know that you can't make everyone happy ever.

Not just a snow sled, what about just plain old cardboard.  It's cheaper that way too.

On all seriousness, Turboranger, do as you please.  I myself don't mind having you on here in the least.  Just try to loosen up, don't take everything to heart all the time, and remember that no matter where you go or what you do, there's always going to be at least one person that doesn't like what you're doing.  Learn and live on.

Nope the best would be to order a cheeseburger with no cheese. That you can do at just about any fast food place. See if they want to sell you a hamburger.

I've had to be that guy at the window when the guy orders a cheeseburger with no cheese.
I've had to be that guy with the smokey diesel in the drivethrough..
I have not ever bought a pickle and rubbers.

If you left, who would remind us all, that all the cool cars live in Ohio?

Mechanically speaking, I contribute almost nothing. As for post whoring, I would never post or re-post anything silly, stupid or funny, or anything that wasn't useful at all.....and stuff like that. :hick:
Seriously though, I would prefer you stay. We have a ton of threads that add no value to this site, and no one complains about it as far as I know. There is always guna b stuff on here peeps like n dont like, n we git ovr it. We have grammar police, and thought police on here as well, and the admins are pretty loose/cool with the rules sometimes. We've all said something stupid for all to c from time 2 time as well, and wished we had not. I know I've been guilty from time to time as well. Until the admins start knockin on yo door, let it go. they are the site gods, not perfect, but I believe they try to do the rite thing for the site. Them the ones you gotta worrie bout makin mad:evilgrin: .
YOYO, piece, in n out.
