Title: Annoying problem
Post by: SR71TC on August 15, 2007, 03:46:18 PM
First off I'll let you know what kind of stuff I've done, then tell you about the issue my TC is doing.

88 TC, 3.73's,  93 GT 5.0, A3M computer w/00 Tremec 5 speed.

Engine has about 15,000 miles on it since I did my rebuild. It's .030 over(306) with 95 GT40's ported (professionally done) on the exhaust side and gasket matched on the intake. 1.6 SVO roller rockers, Comp cams XE266HR 266 intake,  274 exhaust  .554 .555 with a lobe separation of 112. All sensors were replaced, The HO intake was just gasket matched. 1 5/8" BBK shorties with 2.5" dual and American thunder Flowmasters. New distributer and TFI. All sensors are Ford.

OK, now for the issue. I'll start the car up and then proceed down the road. The car will act a little sluggish and have a slight stumble. If I give it some gas, it will "pop" in the intake and then everything is fine after that. It will run great with no problems. If I stop and turn off the car and then start it up again....same issue.

I'm wondering if it some something to do with the cold/starting cycle or is it something else? Your thoughts?

It just started  6 months ago...no codes. The car is basically a sports coupe with TC exterior.

nope 14 deg and the vac is great...good thinking though. something in the computer? hummm. like I said it's weird, works itself out and then it's fine. Just a little annoying at first, then goes away.

If you don't have a vac leak you need a tune.
Old schooll days are over.

a few questions need to ask and i should be able answer yours

1 what size injectors are you useing ?

2 which intake stock or aftermarket?

3 what mass air meter are you useing?

4 you say they are 1995 GT40 heads then what style plugs are you useing? ie say autolite 25 or 3924 ? and what do you have them gapped at? should be .040 to .045 N/A and .030 to .035 NOS or superchargerd..

5 whats the fuel pressure set at? "with the vacuum line off the regulator"

6 are you useing an MSD ignition

7 you said it's a New distributor and TFI.. new ford or an MSD or accel ?

now does it do this all the time or only when it's cold? ie after it warms up after a drive down the road a little does it run fine ?

other then cold start up's things that will make the motor pop kick piss and mon..

a leak in the mass air stream "not a vacuum leak" from the throttle body to the mass air..

a bad O2 sensor..

and they may not throw a code trust me i have bin down that path..

and if it is just mostly when it's a cold start up.

THEN Wellcome to the world of large cams.. that cam is not a little boy's toy cam..

let me know

Nick

The car is always in a great state of tune. I have suspected the cam for awhile now. It only does it for the first 5 minutes of startup and then it's fine. It's something I can live with.

Cleaned the sensor wires on the MAF??? When they get dirty(common with oiled filters), the system leans out and cause a stumble...

The pop in the intake surely doesn't seem normal... I understand the pop only started sometime after the had been in the car???
