Post by: tbirdscott on February 10, 2005, 02:56:18 AM
Ok i'm bored and I just bought a camera so post pics of your pets, i'll start. (present pets please)

This is Garm (yeah I stole that name :flip: ) he's almost 3 months old and a vicious lil mofookie but he's not all that bright.... his cat-like reflexes arent, and 2 out of 3 times he does not land on his feet  but he keeps me amused.

If there's something wrong with that, I'm screwed. My dog is most definately mine (if you couldn't tell by the pics everywhere and her large photo gallery on my website, lol). I treat her better than most people...  :dunno:

If anything the fact that you named your animals in the theme of Buffy the Vampire slayer makes you the coolest person in the universe!!!

:grinno:

If you think that's cool, my brother just had a baby girl (third in a row) and named her Abby Willow, because he and his wife are BTVS fanatics too.

This is Rupert, though I call him Ripper. We rescued him. Our neighbours kids found him under their doorstep a few days earlier, and had him tied with a string around his neck. The little one tried selling her some  from a yard sale, and then said, 'you want to buy a cat?'. This kid has gotten Faith more than once when she was a kitten and you'd year in the neighbours yard, 'Look, I found a kitty.' So Ange took a look to see if she was trying to sell Faith. He got the Ripper moniker because he's quite a bit older, wimpier, and slightly wiser than Faith and Buffy both. :p

Top one is Sherman and Shelby.  Second one is Shelby as a baby.  Third is Big Mike and Shelby.  Both Sherman and Big Mike were strays that ended up at my house.  Shelby is a beagle/lab mix and is 9 months old.  Sherman is a puppieshound sort of mix and is about 6 months old.  And Big Mike is a Rottweiler/Lab mix of an estimated 2 years old.

#1) Murphy and Igor (Igor ws 6 months old at the time, he now weighs 22 pounds)

#2) Igor is the world's laziest cat, which explains his 22-lb heft

#3 My golden, Ben. He really wants to eat Igor and Murphy. Really. I have to keep them separated

Keep an eye on that 22 lb. cat.. we have one cat here who got up to about 20 lbs. and became diabetic as a result of being so overweight. Now we have to give him pills 3 times a day.. and he's just packing on the weight again. (wasted away quite a bit before we figured out what was wrong with him)

That's how I feel about dogs. :p
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: Ifixyawata on February 11, 2005, 10:04:37 AM
Actually dogs are dumb, that's why they make such good pets.  They're forgiving and loving all the time... not moody and particular as cats are.  Sure, it's fun to watch kittens play, but dogs are the more lovable of pets, IMO.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: Bird351 on February 11, 2005, 10:29:25 AM
Heh.. couldn't respond until now, one of the cats came over looking for attention.

See, I've never really had the problem most people seem to have with cats. People have often said that our cats are the friendliest cats they've ever seen. Maybe it's because I share some traits with them.. (I'm not a "pack animal", I don't always want to be bothered with other people, etc.) maybe it's because I don't try to heap attention on them all the time and expect them to eat it up like a dog would.. maybe it's just that undefined reason that cats, dogs, and kids seem more comfortable around me than around many other people.. (even mean dogs seem to feel more able to interact with me than with their owners, although I have no particular love of most dogs.. except German Shepherds, maybe. Same with kids, I don't really care for kids but they seem to like me.. and with cats, people who own supposedly infamously unfriendly cats are amazed that their cats will be nice to me) who knows why?

At any rate, I tend to take a more negative view of dogs mainly because of their owners and their stated prejudices against cats. (feel sorry for anyone I ever catch trying to harm one of my cats.. because I'll interpret it as an attack on a family member, and that person might find themself staring down the business end of my Mauser) If less dog owners badmouthed cats, I probably wouldn't say much about dogs.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: Ifixyawata on February 11, 2005, 10:35:59 AM
I guess I'm just not a cat person... in my experience, cats are too high-maintenance.  Meaning that they're all about making you ear thier respect.  Dogs give love much more freely.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: crystal on February 11, 2005, 10:44:06 AM
I'm definately a dog person. I'd never hurt a cat, but I wouldn't get one as a pet, personal preference. I've always had a dog and would be lost without one (I was for a few months, it was terrible). If I needed something little I'd get a pug or french bulldog. I also like squished faced dogs better.

I had a really cool article on dog vision that I'll dig up when I get home in case anyone's interested. It makes a lot of sense regarding the differences between the two kinds.
Title: Re: Post your pets
Post by: Bird351 on February 11, 2005, 10:49:39 AM
I have a black Himalayan that's pushing 15 years old (ancient for a cat) that's affectionate to the point of acting jealous when I pay attention to other cats.. even cats he's on good terms with. More often than not, he'll even come running in from halfway across the house if I call him.

My fiance gets annoyed with me now and again because the two cats she moved in with want more attention from me than from her. I don't really go out of my way to endear myself to those cats, especially not over any of the other cats in the house. It just happens.

I guess I just know how to deal with 'em. I don't see cats as demanding that I earn their respect or anything like that. They're just there. I see them as often wanting their own space just like I do, and occasionally wanting to interact with others just like I do. I rarely try to force a lot of attention on them all at once. I may just pet one a few times if they're laying near where I'm walking by, and then keep on walking. If I treat them that way long enough, eventually they come looking for more attention.

BTW, someone needs to check his PMs more often. :p

Put it this way. I had just turned 10 when they died and for some reason I couldn't just throw them away. So I sealed each of them  in their own box. They were put in the basp00get and I forgot about them. So 10 years later, they still sit.

Hey, My cats sleep in the bathtub back at home! LOL  i have a question. I wanted to post a pic, but my photo is about 1.1mb, obviously too big to attatch.  ?? How to?

I have a cat here in Iraq....not really a pet. He lurks underneath my box ( My Connex box room that is up on blocks )  and steals things I leave outside.  He stole a small LED light that I left on my outside table.  I went back inside for 2 seconds to grab a pack of smokes and there he was, running accross our Pad with it! little ! LOL I leave him a Tuna can with food outside every nite, trying to befriend him.  My wife even sent me Flea Collars and a bag of cat food! LOL

Anyways, I plan on getting a German Shepard pup when i get back..... my cats are gonna hate me after that.

Lowcat, there's no such thing as a dumb German Shepherd. You just didn't train her right. She is beautiful though. :)

Hey, I got to see a Great Dane puppy last night at the dog park. :D I need to own one of these things. We had two growin up, and you wouldn't believe how many people though our black Magie was a really skinny pony. :grinno:

The pup was about six months old, taller than buffy, and hopping around like the biggest goon.  :grinno: So cool.

Here are some great dane pics.

9months at 140 lbs and 13 weeks at 60 lbs. They gain about 5 lbs a week at that age.
(http:// http://www.danesonline.com/images/newguylaying.jpg)
and to put that in perspective, yes, that's a couch, not a love seat.

If any of you have ever read the comic Marmaduke, you'll know the exact temperment of a Great Dane. Quiet, docile, friendly, and LAZY! You wouldn't believe how hard it was to find a decent picture of a full grown GD that wasn't laying down or sleeping.

Dumb? You haven't seen dumb until you have owned a golden retriever. Ben (pictured previously) ate light bulbs. Not one light bulb. Not two light bulbs. 60 (sixty) light bulbs. An entire string of C9 outdoor christmas bulbs. Glass, brass bases, copper wire, and all. And he didn't just chew 'em up, he ATE 'em. The vet bill was unpleasant. I think he still shiznits glass occasionally...

Then there was the time he ate the pressure-treated lattice fence. That stuff causes cancer, y'know. He ate two full 4X8 sheets. Staples and all. A splinter got stuck in his throat and promptly became infected. Another several-hundred-dollar vet bill.

...And then there's the toad. It amazes me how sick a 100-pound dog can get when it eats a 3 ounce toad. I've got some interesting pictures of an unhappy (and very swollen) golden retriever somewhere around here. I declined to take pictures of the partially digested amphibian he deposited on my kitchen floor.

...And he's allergic to bee stings. It cost me $300 to find that out. Nearly cost him his life. And he still eats bees.

They say golden retrievers live a long time. I'd like to know how they do it, 'cuz if my idiot survives to see four years of age it'll be by sheer luck!

Crystal: My brother would just love a gal with your taste in dogs. He has owned three bullmastiffs. His first one, Sage, weighed 155 lbs in his prime. The second one, Abbey, was about 120 lbs (huge for a female), and the third (and current) one, Willy, weighs about 140. Willy's still growing though, he's only a year old. He also had an American bull but had to get rid of it because it was too nasty around his kids. The Bullmastiffs are gentle giants.

Here's Sage guarding my old two-door Cherokee. This pic was taken 6 years ago - sadly, a kidney disorder took Sage's life:

Just thought this was funny, my friend took it the other night while she was pestering him. We cant decide wether he's laughing, screaming, or singing! lol.. it amuses me anyway

This is my little terror: Lucy

She's 10.0 years old (in real time, do the math) and we've had her ever since she was a pup. You'd never guess she was that old, doesn't act a day over 2  :)

Beautiful Dobey's, man. I dog I've always liked, even though they do look a little on the anorexic side, (all of them, not yours in particular). I guess that's why Dobey/Rottie crosses are so nice.

As for the Irish Wolfhound, of course, you had to find the one dog that's actually bigger than the one I want to get.  :brick:

;)

Have fun keeping that hair clean, and off your couch.

The Wolf Hound would be my outside dog. Keep the neighbors out of my business.

my female weighs 72lbs... just weighed at the vet yesterday
and the male weighs 108lb. He is huge.

They are big boned dobis AKC and eat all day long. Or they cry and wine, I dont think anyone told them that they are dobermans, they still act like lap dogs.

Most dobermans are big softies. It's just the one's trained to kill and driven insane that you see on TV.
