Title: Going to supercharge the Cat
Post by: Carl on August 14, 2007, 03:06:50 PM
I am putting an Eaton M90 blower from the supercoupe on my engine, I am either going to have to fabricate my own bracket or use the BBK Instacharger stuff as it used the same supercharger, so yes the M90 will work great with a 5.0 I have already seen other people who have done the same thing.

Problem is, BBK stopped making the Instacharger kit a while ago so if anyone sees the brackets on ebay or anywhere please give me the heads up. As far as the actual supercharger... well that is dirt cheap on ebay. I will keep you guys updated. :hick:

The instacharger could do 9psi.. thats a good bit.  There are a couple of Corral guys running them.. and one guy who has a custom bracket setup to hold it.

Do you have to go to EFI to do that, or can you keep it carb?

Keep the carb just need a turbohat.

I hope you plan to put a better cam and heads in it first (possibly pistons if needed).  Just remind me to not race your car when you make it back down to NC...

I already have E7s getting them this week. I also might buy a roller block. Dude only wants $250 for it.

I am getting the E7s for $75 :]

Cam will be no problem to get.

Sounds good man!  Buy the roller block and completely go through it with good pistons and such.  Maybe port the E7s if possible.  You cat will be badass.

hey guys if that is a pricing mistake by summit please do not buy them until tomorrow. I get paid tomorrow and am going to buy that just to see what they send me. I will keep you all updated.

lol I bet it should be 1,300

I has to be a pricing mistake!

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/BBK1601.htm

same part number let's all buy them at the same time so they don't catch on before they change the price.

are you going to setup the carb as a blowthrough or drawthrough?

There is no way in HELL that an instacharger is worth 3800... NO WAY in HELL.  For that price you could buy a twin or single turbo kit capable of 20+ psi..

The instacherger was made over 15 years ago, one of the first superchargers for the Mustang.  I would build a kit myself.. hell I have the supercharger even...

HAHAHA :hick:

If I actually get a 13 dollar supercharger kit I am going to flip out.

I would suggest buying this within the next 2 days if you are interested in what it is. Just in case summit catches on.

Just bought mine a few mins ago. Lets see what happens. I can probably get this to work on my 92 MArk VII. If not just sell it and buy some more.

ITS JUST A GASKET KIT I JUST CHECKED ORDER STATUS

it said processing

then all it said was BBK-1601        Gasket kit

I love how when I look under BBK and Gaskets I cannot find it!

and how it says Just supercharger, instacharger, 5.0 6 PSI before you buy it!

Oh well atariman and I are still going to probably need them for the brackets he makes. Hell, maybe it will come with brackets. I am calling Summit and I will keep you all updated.

At least you gave it a shot...it really did look like they mistyped the price of a supercharger kit.

maybe atariman, cougar1car, and I can file a false advertising claim. Because like I previously said it did not come up under gaskets and only said so after I bought the product.

See everything else dissapeared.  huh!

You can actually put a Eaton M90 on your V6 Cat. Since the supercoupe was a 3.8 too. Hell, Mustang V6 guys have done it too and they have the 3.8.

That looks cool! I am going to mount mine on the side though so it's more secure and move the alternator to where the smog pump was.

I'm thinking of doing the same or just sell the whole thing out right. I just can't bring myself to cutting the hood. There goes the sleeper thing if I did.

Very true! That is another reason I am doing it that way. Search about the M90 on a 5.0 online and you will see how a few people did theirs.

His is cool! :]

Once again atariman and I are going to both do the same thing perhaps at the same time, and he is the master fabricator. So he will be making the brackets. Let's hope it's easy with these gaskets we got, hell perhaps the brackets came with it which I doubt. :cougarsmily:

actually that was a bad example as his is mounted up top. I am mounting mine directly to the side like this.

ok, here is the deal peoples, the more I dig up info on this little project, the more money is required and time with the cars hood up. I am expecting a child here next month so my supercharger.....maybe a turbo....dunno for sure yet...... but anyways I'm putting mine on hold for now. As I have never installed a supercharger before and I don't want to run into all kinds of problems until I know what I am getting myself into. I don't wanna modify the hood either for clearance issues either. I will help Carl all that I can and as long as his funds don't run dry,  we will get er done as they say. Until I win the lotto or I start to shiznit money I am gonna continue to research and demise a plan.

Not to hijack this thread but if you could put some mroe horse power on your car, would it be a turbo or a supercharger?

I am not sure how much the 3.8 changed over the years. You will have to ask some super-coupe guys and see what the differences are.
