Well,
I was thinking of going with an after market universal Air Cleaner setup.
Due to the bulkiness and hassle of removing and reinstalling the factory setup, I just always have it off at this point, With the lid piece on top of the intake... Which really doesn't help foreign debris from getting in im sure...
Any problems im going to encounter if i do this? I'm sure ill need to cap some hoses and such.
And any suggestion as the the air cleaner assembly i should use? I'll be putting a turbo coupe hood on soon.
Anyone done this yet? I'll be doing it on a 3.8l... And which cleaner assy did you use if you did? Thanks.
I know at work we sell stuff from Spectra and they have the CARB/TBI hats to put a cold air style intake on just about anything. I put a 88 turbo coupe hood on my 84 Turbo coupe about 6years ago does that qualify as done that before?
Sorry i meant has anyone done an after market air cleaner or cold air intake assembly before.
And yea i've seen the turbo coupe hood used on all years between 83-88. XD
The hood scoops should help with the air cleaner style i was wanting to replace the factory setup with.

I'm telling you what I did. It's probaly not right though. I just capped all the vac lines that came off the factory air cleaner then put the new one on. Mine was a 5.0 CFI at the time

If you are running a Holley-type carburetor and need the hood clearance, there is an early chevy z-28 aircleaner that has a dropped base, and it is the best I have seen for airflow and clearance. I bought a repo from egay for about $30.
I belive he's running the stock CFI on his car. Just remember the base of a CFI unit is bigger then a Holley. I can provide a pic if you need and you don't understand what I mean
Just cap the line. Its for the heat riser setup.
On my 3.8L, i just disconnected the lines, pulled the little sensors out of the lit, put bolts in them, polished it up and flipped the lid. Also used a K&N filter from an 88 Camaro with TBI.

And yea, K&N has an awesome selection of full assemblys~A bit pricey, But looks worth it.

I might start off with one of the $30'ish ones though, Make sure everything works out and i'm a bit short on money right now anyway.
Hot Rod did a write up on different style round elements and their effect on HP a couple years back. As I recall the lid in the bottom was worth a few ponies, but they were tested on a 500 HP Chevy small block, so your gains will probably be negligible.
