I have a 88 Cougar 3.8 with a little above 76000 miles on it. It hesitates at start and sometimes wants to stall at a stop. Press the gas and you get a split second of nothing that it revs. Just did a tune up plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Oil and tranny fluid as well. ( as a side note while changing the fluid I found that the fluid was the original fluid unless pumped out the top. I still had the plunger in the bottom of the pan which my haynes book says was put in there during manufacturing). Back to the problem I cant figure it out. Anyhelp would be appreciated.

click tech library and scroll down to eeciv diagnostics.
your likely dealing with tps voltage being out of wack or the isc is carbond up.
Ok I will look after work at your diy thing to figure out how to do it.
Sounds like low fuel pressure. Check the fuel pressure and change the fuel filter. My 88 cougar with a 3.8 had symptoms like yours when the fuel filter needed changing. When the fuel pump went bad I had much worse problems.
Forgot to mention that above thats the first thing I changed. how would I check fuel pressure??
