i figured out why i was never able to boost beyond 15psi...
i swapped the gillis valve out for my turbo xs bcv, and i was finally able to go past 15psi. with the current timing, it won't detonate until about 19-20 psi. i set it at 18. it's got a bit more pull in the mid range but that's about it. i need to get the oil leak and the coolant leak fixed, then find some higher octane fuel so i can see what 22 psi will do at the track. Twisted Evil
moral of the story:
gillis valve ftl... txs valve ftw.
what you gonna do with the gillis valve?
You had the low-boost spring. Gillis also makes a high-boost spring. Guess which one I have. NO problemshiznitting 25+ psi ;)
giving it to a buddy of mine with a turbo vw.
ah, i wasn't aware there were two springs for it. oh well. i had the turbo xs part just laying around and figured i'd give it a try. it's easier to use too... you don't need any tools.
, i wanted it for my dads car, his factory wg is fed, only pushes close to 6 psi
i'm sorry. honestly, go to grainger or any hardware store that sells air compressors. buy a pressure control valve. i ran one of those on my truck for about 3 years with no problems. fully adjustable from 0-100psi.:D
it's cheaper then dirt too. i think i paid $6.
I can hit 18 all day on my Gillis. They're not idiot proof, though. I can attest to that. :P
Just build a ball and spring valve for like $3 like I did.

ive seen 20psi with my low boost spring'd gillis. it wasnt the spring that was the problem...
maybe this:
that may be, but i had the turbo xs part laying on the shelf and decided to give it a shot.
If the wastegate is shot, a boost controller will make no difference.
