yeah on the drivers side the little thing that goes to glass has fallen off so i have no rear defroster....how do i fix this i know they have to make some kind of glue to fix it....thanks
Yeah, mine are like that too. Can you just glue them on with super glue or something? Thats all that it looked like anyways.
:birdsmily:
i think it needs to be some kind of glue that conducts electricity superglue will block the electrical flow i think...
They make a kit for repairing the defroster lines. I believe the kit contains a small bottle of conductive paint.
I don't know if the paint would be strong enough to hold that terminal onto the glass, though. I guess it's worth a try.
I do believe that you need to solder those onto the window. I did it on a toyota car my dad had. I used a heat gun to warm up the window then used a propane torch to solder it back together.
If it were me...I'd jam the wire end full of dielectric grease and see if that helps. The suction might just help the wire to stay on.
If not, then perhaps putting a thin piece of metal in with the harness end will help tighten up the connector. A spade connector is probably perfect...break off the connector, jam it up in there, try to attach.
I don't believe you can just crimp the connector to make a tighter connection. But you may be able to use a small screwdriver or awl to bend the metal inside the end. That might also help.
If you are saying the male terminal has come loose from the glass this is what I'd try... You'll need to tape it in place till the glue dries... Figure out the best tape method BEFORE you start fiddling with the glue...
NO YOU CANNOT USE SUPER GLUE ELMERS OR ANYTHING SIMILAR...
As far as soldering it with a torch, yours are bigger than mine... :punchballs:
Sounds like a good way to buy another glass...
ok ty i found a kit shortly after you posted online though needa find local supplier...
please share your find on the kit mine has also fallen off. thanks
I tried a solider iron and that didn't make enough heat. So we broke out the propane torch. Had my brother in law hold the heat gun to the outside of the window. I used the torch to solider the terminal back to the window. Very easy. I don't know why you would need new glass. Maybe a new car if you aren't to careful. Besides this when I did that I was 16 and the car was 10years old. My dad loved it.
http://www.frostfighter.com is the page i found the kit on and i hear they got the repair kits at NAPA also
Scroll down to where they are talking about complete defroster kits. I do believe that is a T-Bird rear!
I soldered one of those on my T-Bird many moons ago. I had a large high wattage soldering iron.
If you need to use tape for any reason try the metal tape from the hvac section at the hardware store. That stuff in many instances is superior to duct tape!
