Well I have decided on a new car, some of you may or may not know, I have been foxless pretty much for the last year. My 86 black car got impounded and I was unable to get it to pass saftey or emmisions. I have been in and out of 3.8's in the $100 to $300 range since, most only lasting about a week at a time. I also got kicked out of my house and have just barely gotten a steady place to live and park a car :D .
I'm going to try out on of those thunderbirds. I finally found one in the $500 range. I'm picking it up friday at around 3 pm. It has a few minor problems, trans slipps in overdrive only, but I know that means its prolly close to going, it has been wreck at some point in its life and it has been completely repainted. According to the guy I'm buying it from, he drove it for about 5 years, he said it'll pass emmissions fine and has a straight frame and not alot of rust. I still have to make the 25 mile trip to look at it, but overall it looks like an okay buy. let me know what you think.

I have an extra transmission out of an 87 3.8 v-6, and a stock rebuilt 87 mustang gt short block. Most of my other parts were thrown away through my may places of staying over the last couple of months. I also still have an h-pipe (no hard feelings vinnie, I'm glad it got straightened out and you were welcomed back to the board) and some stock shorties, but other then that i'm starting from scratch.
assuming the car is in okay shape, it will get the new block with e7 heads, a stock cam, and a t-5 with a 84 mark7 7.5 traction lock rear with 3.73 gears and maybe some disc brake upgrades. Oh, and it will make the 65 hour work weeks worth working again;) .
Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to read this. I would love to fall in love with a fox again. :birdsmily:
*edit* the guy who is selling the car works for a car dealer and got the engine pics mixed with another car.
what engine's in that one? it looks... different.
Simple, it's not the right pic. That's not even a fox body that engine is in.:D
that is not the engin bay for that car
It's a Chevy truck with a Vortec disguised as a Tbird! Sweet!
The TBird looks like a decent deal. Keep your life together BEFORE modding the car, OK?
Belive me I will. Having a $1000 block and no place to put it sucks. Thats been harder to hold onto then anything else I still have. The car itself shouldnt be driven more then once or twice a week because I will be saving virtually ever dime I have to paying off bills for the next 2 or 3 months. After I'm caught up, I will start saving up for a few minor go fast goodies. By early spring (and tax return time lol) I want to have everything ready for the stick and new engine.
You can tell how much I have kept my life in order by the fact that I still have an engine, but no car or place to keep it.
no offense to you thunderbird folk, but its gonna be weird as anything saying "I'm just gonna go and grab a cd out of the old bird" lol.
As you sit in the driver seat,it's all the same.Plus,an added bonus with this car,on the outside,T-Birds are better looking than Cougars.LOL.
I hear the Cats a snarlin'... I'm gettin my ass outta here...
RAWR RAWR RAWR!!!!!! *chomp* mmm tasty thatll teach em :D
O.K.,O.K.............To all the Cougar owners,I'm sorry........SORRY YOUR CARS AREN"T GOOD LOOKIN' AS THE 'BIRDS !!!!!!!!!!!!BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!! Just kidding.I love you Cougar guys....in a brotherly way.......not a "prison love" kind of way (to clarify for those who are a little slow).LOL.
HOPEfully no one here's first thought is that kind, you really shouldnt have to put that disclaimer. Get yer minds outta da gutter!!!!
cougar, birds, prison love? geez what's next?
Look's decent for the price, Not too sure about the paint quality... As it's already peeling on the back bumper.
Like the color of the paint.
It is a good foundation to start with.Make a list of your wants and your needs and start gathering those parts to build it how you want it.One piece at a time.
i dong get that whole engine bay thing,, why would they advertise an engine bay pic like that? it must be a mistake.
what engine is in it?
They probably take pics of all kinds of cars at once and hand the camara to someone who handles their adds, who aren't necessarily knowledgeable of cars.
, looks like i missed all the fun in this thread.
for the record, 87-88 turbocoupes own all in looks!
I fully agree, but I'm sure others will not... Difference is what makes it all fun...
Congrats on the car pretty nice
I know I was all excited about the car when I posted this, but it ended up falling through... the car had way bad tires which added up to over $100 just to get it home, and then the guy said, "oh I need to charge sales tax"... that put it a hair over $700... So I ended up not getting the car...
Until yesterday, the guy called up and says he has to get rid of it now. He is 47 miles away from me. He said he'll drop it down to $400 and take payments on it. I talked him into trailering it down to me for $425, $225 on delivery, and $200 in two weeks. Do you guys think this is a better deal?
I think so. I'd pay it just for the color alone
now can you tell us what it has for an engine????
3.8 I think
5.0
:beatyoass:
got the car home today. A couple of things wrong that are bothering me...
Really loud rod knock at higher rpm's only.
Hood has damage.
old.....old tires.
Exhaust leaks... everywhere.
No headliner.
outta oil, like bad.
I went to pop the hood and couldnt get it open. Force it open, and the hinges are broken(not by me). Check the oil and it doesn't even register on the dip stick. I'm guessing 3 quarts or more low. oh and the old tv cable is off.
Car runs strong, after a quick zip tie, shifts good and hard, and is loud. Its gonna take me longer then I hopped to get it on the road.
that sucks. At least you have a fox again!
Yeah true but that sucks there a few bugs wrong with it
i have a new motor... 86 or 87 mustang short block. I'll prolly drive it till it dies then make a weekend project out of swapping out engines...
