It's been a while since I worked on the 80's.

Thought you meant the glass itself.

Yea little clips hold the trim, And gotta be really careful not bend or crease it as your pry like mentioned before.

Has anyone tried painting the trim that goes around your windshield?  Mine looks like ass :shakeass:and I'd like to touch it up.

And where do you have the wippers in park position? Are they on the glass or not? I have them on the glass and the trim is damaged, because the driver's wipper hits the molding every turn a bit.

Your Cat looks absolutely sick!  I love it!  Rustoleum Satin Black it is.
I'll be as carefull as I can.  I saw a couple of you said these trim pieces are easy to mess up when you remove them from the car.
Thanks for the info guys.

I don't have them on the car in that pic. but in park, they should be to the edge of the glass. here''s a pic without the hood on, they actually hit the washer squirter blocks.

If the wipers are already down that far and are still hitting the window trim.... You may have the wrong size wiper blades on the car
Title: Rear Window Trim?
Post by: 88 Blackbird 5.0 on June 21, 2010, 04:37:52 PM
Alright guys.  I took the windshield trim off, prepped it, painted it and reinstalled it.  It came out great!  I used Duplicolor's "Trim Paint."  It looks factory.  What a difference.  :D

Now...  Does the trim around the back window have the same type of clips holding it on?  What's the best way to take it off without screwing it up?

pretty much the same thing on the back. Just thinner clips

What year and type are you working on? I assume an 88 Bird? The rear window trim in these cars are plastic snap in, correct, not the aluminum type like the fronts.

Some are snap in ,some are clips , I have no idea what is the deciding factor

You were right Daminc.  There were small clips, similar to the ones on the windshield.  This car is an 87 by the way.
I tweaked some of the rear trim pieces a little taking them off, but I was able to bend them back into shape luckily.  The clips were so tight, there was no way to avoid tweaking them a little.
I carefully straightened the pieces, cleaned them up and then painted them.  Tomorrow, they'll be ready for installation on the car.
Thanks as always for the help guys.
