I finally finished up the last bit of sanding and primering, and now, after almost a year of picking at it fixing small dents and dings, taking care of a bit of surface rust, and replacing everything forward of the windshield, the car is finally ready for paint! Now all I've got to do is find somebody to do it, or figure out how to do it myself. Is there a "Painting cars for dummies" book out there? :hick:
It'll be quite nice to be able to put this thing back together. Gonna be interesting, considering I took it apart months ago...

There are books out there. I just dove in head first on my painting. Not nearly as hard as I thought it would be. Just take your time and you can do it. Do some searching on the net here I found lots of info. Looking good I know it will look better when the paint is on it. Good luck

Nice, i now can understand how you can spend a year fixing the dings, i waxed mine today and found a handful of dents and dings that I only wish i had the time and funds to go through and perfect. Nice work!!

The trim was an absolute w. Peeling it off without bending it was only half the battle - getting the tape off the body was a nightmare in itself. Several hours with a heat gun, heating it up, then rubbing it off with my thumb. It left some very interesting blisters. As for the colour, see below
Actually, I only missed the bottom half of the front bumper. The top half is actually primed with a clear, flexible primer :hick:

Weeks? This car has been in some state of disassemblage since before Christmas. First it was swapping the TC axle and CHE arms in, then making the brakes work, then installing the SFC's, then the body work. To give you an idea how long it's been since I drove the car, nearly three years ago I posted a pic of my odometer when it topped 100,000 kilometers (about 62k miles). The safety inspection tag ran out in October 2006 -the tag has 103k km written on it, which means that would have been the mileage in October 2005. It now reads 105,xxx. That's about 3k miles in three years :punchballs:
I dove straight into the body work after finishing the rear suspension (it was the middle of winter), so I haven't even been able to sample the new ride with the CHE arms, the better stopping power of the 4-wheel discs, or the better acceleration of the 3.55 gears and better traction of the rebuilt traction-lock unit. The car has only moved as far as you see it moved in the above pics - in and out of the garage when I had to work on something else...
I'll paint it. Right now im a month into my 18 month Auto Collision Program. Trim comes off easier you just need to know what tools to use. I coulda had it off and all of the adhesive off in an hour or so hehe. Anyways painting isnt hard, you need A) A nice gun, crucial part Sata is the best B) a sealed place to paint it, and very good ventilation C) Put alot of clear on, Im talking more than normal, that way you can really sand the orange peel with some 1200 and polish the living hell out of it, or wet sand with 600 re-clear and polish for a showcar shine.

When I paint my car I don't think I'm going to tear it down quite that far. After pulling everything and seeing my car like that, I'd want to cry hoping I could put it back together.
