Title: New Here and wanted to say hello
Post by: CustomT on July 31, 2007, 05:56:37 PM
Hello all, I am new to this forum and am also a new owner (a year now) of a 1987 Turbo Coupe....well, not exactly a Turbo Coupe anymore.

I purchased my bird about a year ago and the owner then pulled the engine and turbo out along with the computer and they dropped in a fairly built carberated 302.

Since I have owned it, I have rebuilt the engine and stroked it out to a 347.  (specs are in my sig)  I guess my question now is.....it is no longer a turbo so what would you call the car now? Tbird Coupe?

Anyway, I'm glad I found this forum and hope to be able to contribute to this group.

It's great meeting all of you and hope to be posting with all of you soon.

i'm not trying to start a fight or stir the pot, i'm just stating an opinion.  i fail to understand why a turbocoupe has to be used instead of just a regular tbird.

i'm not trying to act like an advocate for the tc, like what you run into on svoca with those cars, but i'd just rather not see them converted.

Without us converting them, where would you get all your used parts from?  j/k. I like the TC's because of the front end, interior, rear, brakes, etc, etc. Yea, I could have started with a sport, but then would have needed a TC parts car!

don't get me wrong, i understand where you're coming from... we all know that the turbocoupes are the BEST of all the thunderbirds.:D  i just hope that people realize that the more of them that are converted, the less there are of them... they aren't a "rare" car, but if this growing trend continues, it will become one soon enough.

I agree but, I did buy it this way so, I just added to it.  She's a mint car, original paint and interior, no rust anywhere.  I love the way she handles and feels, will keep this car for a long time to come.

Thanks to everyone for the fine greatings, you sure know how to make a person feel at home.  I will post pics of the bird (inside and out) as soon as it quits raining (will be in the am).  Still have a bit of work to do on her (engine dress up stuff) and am trying to get her to run cooler.  I have read all the posts here about cars running hot and have done most of those suggestions.  The real problem is there is only half a shroud so I customed ordered an alminum dual fan shroud, should be here in a couple days.  Hopefully that will take care of the heat problem.

Other than that, she is a sweet car.:D

Oh, almost forgot.  I found a yard here (not a junk yard, someones yard) that has nothing but Tbirds lined up.  He has over 70 birds from different years, models, etc.  I was planning to stop by there this week and see if any were for sale or for parts.  Will let you guys know if he is willing to part them out or outright sell em.

These cars are here in my home town of Dunnellon, Fl.

Back to your car.....have you raced it? I'm sure with that combo you would be up there on the "Top 25" list.

Welcome to the forum.

I have no problem with putting a V-8 in a Turbo Coupe.

But I'm getting lower in the top 25 every day.

No, I haven't yet.  Gonna give it about a month to work out all the bugs and will be taking it to Gainesville Fl, and put her on the track.  I am most definately curious as to what she can do.
