Title: A pillar gauge pod?
Post by: JoeNoble on July 26, 2007, 10:48:39 PM
Will a 79 - 93 Mustang A pillar pod fit an '88 Turbo Coupe?

If not, where can I get an A pillar gauge pod for my turbo coupe? (Preferable with 2 or 3 holes)

Nope. Get one for a 94 up stang I do believe. I put a dual pod in my 84 it is almost perfect fit.

94-98 Mustang "short" pod (ie-bolts onto factory A-pillar) is what works. I have the Auto Meter 2-gauge in my 88 TC.

I got this one and painted it to match my interior.

Did you use the rest of the trim that the Mark 7 uses above the door?

Yes, that was the one caveat. I had to grab that piece from the junkyard and paint it to match...

No, that looks way too flat. Just buy the Auto Meter one.

And I bet the $6 yours will fit like . You get what you pay for in gauges and accessories, I learned that a LONG time ago.

If $35 is too much (Summit doesn't charge shipping, and it's only $5 per order no matter how large), then find a local speed shop that can order it and give you a discount. Every once in awhile the local Baxter's runs a special on Auto Meter gauge pods for $20.

The Lincoln fits nicer, but those gauges are too high up on the pillar for me.

What's with the red console pieces by the shifter? And the consolette looking tan piece? Looks interesting, I must know more!

And by 06/01, I meant 06/01/07 :hick:
Title: A pillar gauge pod?
Post by: Cougar5.0 on July 27, 2007, 11:06:32 PM
The gauges are actually nice & close & easy to read up there! :D

Yeah, I cut down a full console to make a mini-console for the shifter & boot etc... I realized when I looked at the pic that the red just doesn't cut it - even though the car is red. I had one that was black & didn't quite look right as the top part is greyish. I would have kept it, but the seat malfunctioned and crushed the old mini-console - doh! I cut the console one plastic thickness behind the mounting tabs for the screws that hold the shifter boot bezel on. I cut a little plate and capped the end of the mini-console. It looks great - the end is mostly blocked by the mini-console.

And yes, that is the original consolete behind the mini-console - still attached to the seat :D

Oh, and the armrest uses the foam from the rear pimp-stick from a junk 20th I had. Because of the location of the shifter, I needed an arm-rest that was about an inch shorter - luckily the rear pad & leather fit pretty nicely!!

Oh, and the lighted LED switch on the bottom opening in the dash center is for the line-lock, there is one beside the antenna switch for the E-Locker rear. The LED bezels on the A-Pillar are superbright LED's triggered by an RPM switch (shift light) and one of the LED's in the bottom of the dash center is for the Water Injection & there is also a 4 position switch for the TwEECer hidden behind the cup-holder (to the right of the shifter handle.)

Oh, and hanging out of the glovvy is the cable for the LM-1. Velcro'd to the back of the glove box is the DataQ box.

Dude that's awesome! I can get you some Ford dye to match though ...hint-hint...

Post by: Cougar5.0 on July 27, 2007, 11:48:06 PM
Yeah? I used an OTS SEM plastic paint for the A-Pillar, and that would probably be OK. I did have a custom blend made for the gold hubcaps - the guys thought I was Monk or something - I took over an hour to decide which gold looked closest to the OEM.

Can you get an exact match in something that will work well on the plastic?

I've gotten pretty close on all the other colors. My Shadow Blue and Charcoal are right on. I'm still perfecting the "red" Scarlet Red, though I have the "Maroon" Scarlet Red down pat.

Is there any company that sells a 2 pod a-pillar that can be swapped 2 the otherside of the car and be used to mount in a set of 2 tweeters. If you flip the autometer around will it mount to the otherside?

Bad news about the Mark VII gauge pods :( I inquired about them and they said they are no longer available, they are looking for a buyer for the molds, etc.

Oh, that sucks. Hey, at the Fun Ford Weekend, there was a guy there with a fast S/C V-8 Thunderbird (Steve) who had a 3-opening pod. It was a blot-on, but it looked pretty good. Good enough that he won the "best interior" trophy in the car show!!

I asked a friend who knows him about the pod, but I haven't heard back from him yet. Does anybody know who offers this?

OK, I accidentally ordered the 3 gauge pod pillar (ATM-12121) as I wanted 3 gauges and I didn't look closely before ordering :D I guess Autometer doesn't make a bolt-on 3 gauge anyway, so it was modify this or return it.

I decided to modify it:

Then painted it and mounted it onto the original a-pillar:

I think it looks good - though I've got to get a closer match on the paint when I remove it to install the third gauge.

Has anyone ever contacted Lotek, gaugepods.com, and inquire about a group buy for 2 and 3 gauge pods. I bought one for my Contour SVT back in 99 and have used them for all cars since (2 Fox Stangs and a 02 F-150). Great quality and multiple colors!
