a few years ago a buddy of mine and i drove from clearwater to ft. wayne, indiana (1,133 miles one way) to pick up an svo. that was a long ass trip, but it sure as hell wasn't uneventful. my truck popped a head gasket on the way back. poor levi had to drive my truck with the windows down in the freezing cold while i slept in the f-150 that was following us with another mustang on it.
i now live in kansas city, mo, and i'm leaving friday night to drive to ohio with a buddy of mine to pick up my new turbocoupe. i FINALLY found a really clean 88 that i like a lot. it's 678 miles one way. not too bad, but it's not right around the corner either.
how far have you gone?
exactly 1 year ago..
the convertible was from Tucson, AZ.. i live in Niagara Falls, Ontario
2,259 mi
About 60miles, for the '88 Cougar
josh. if i wasnt movin this weekend, id invite you to stop on your way thru indy. on the way back of course, i wanna see that TC.
what day/time are you travelin back thru, maybe the planets will align and our schedules will magically co-inside.
I forgot... In '68 I flew from Des Moines IA(was living in Madrid IA), to Chesapeake VA to get my first '64 Ford(was bought while I was in IA)... Drove it back to IA, approx 1300 mi... Two months later it was too cold(yeah I'm a cooch), so I moved back to VA... Don't remember what I spent for gas coming back, but on the trip out, I spent a little over $27... :D
Who has gone farther on less $$$$??? That '64 was a 289, with three on the tree and 3.25 rear, got a little over 21mpg...
In '72 I went from Chesapeake VA to Lewisburg WV to buy a '64 Ford...(2nd one)
In '96 I went from Chesapeake VA to Lewisburg WV to sell a '86 Mustang...
Just a tick over 300 mi(600 RT)...
1472 miles round trip. I don't mind driving but loaded the car at 3am and realized the trailer had a broken leaf pack and two shredded tires. Slept in advance auto parking lot, borrowed tools, walked for parts, then drove home. Worth it? Probably not.
Jim
3.5 miles to get mine... it was here in town
Get out of here, you cant drive!
I drove about 300 miles round trip for my mustang.
Why do you say that. Me and dad took the Bronco to get it from my freinds house, 3.5 miles away.
I had my cat delivered to me! Other than that I don't go to far for a vehicle. Maybe and hour one way.
620 miles from Westminster to Paw Paw, MI then another 60 miles to Grand Rapids to get a temp tag then 680 back home for my classic limousine. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2488908
After came from Connecticut (~270 miles), Before was driven to me from Vermont, the white 87 XR-7 came from Kannapolis, NC (~430 miles).
Well, I didn't "buy" the vehicle, but I drove it for a year, from Ft Carson all the way to the middle of Iraq. Can anybody beat that one? Didn't cost me a dime either.:D
my brother drove me 4 hours there and 4 hours back to get just parts for my car... not usre how many miels but it was a long time and all i got were parts! but i got a hell of a deal!
, we're some dedicated fools, aren't we? lol.
turbocoupe50,
i was born just outside of chesapeak, va... at portsmouth naval hospital. i lived in chesapeak for about 10 years growing up.
gumby,
pm'd.
Just over 900 miles for my 88' XR7 13+ hours one way
300+ for my 86' blue LS 5+ hours one way
100+ for my 86' XR7 turbo cat
I've driven to New Jersey 10+ hours, 600+ miles to look at a couple them also, and when I was in Chicago at my cousins I drove into Michigan to look at one also.
Back about '91,'92, I was going to fly to California from Atlanta and drive my great aunt's 67 Chevelle back from Pasadena to Atlanta. It was 396/powerglide. No A/C, no radio, just your basic car with almost no options. Really low miles, she bought it new but was too old to drive it anymore. Knew I was a car nut, wanted me to have it.
Barry Grant wouldn't let me have a week off to drive it back. :-(((
you know that shipping a car would have probably cost less then that plane ticket and gas. i had a buddy ship his camaro from miami to kansas city... only cost $600
All mine have been pretty local. Anyway here they are in order...
~70 miles one way for the '64 Fairlane (free car ;))
~45 miles one way for the Tib (bought her new)
~40 miles one way for the '86 cat
~30 miles one way for the '88 cat
About an hour for the 87TC and the 07 Stang. Both of those trips were filled with fear. Different for each, but fear nonetheless.
that limo is BEAUTIFUL!! must have more interior pictures.
what were you afraid of?
[sigmund freud voice]tell me about your mother.[/sigmund freud voice]
1604 one way driveway to driveway. flew down, drove home. best trip i ever had.
In the TC, the brakes where not all that great. Let's just say panic stopping was not an option. Not my best decision.
In the Stang. First New Car + Rush Hour Traffic + Bad Highway = :(
you still had the e-brake in the tc:D
My dad worked for Delta, so flying was free then. Gas money and hotel was a worthwhile trade to get to see the country. I had never heard of anyone shipping a car then.
Even now I have gotten a couple quotes for a nice Bird seen on ebay, and prices are closer to $2K for this trip.
If I go to Mississippi to pick up a roadrace chassis(510 miles) will that count? :-)))
Farthest I've gone was about 300 miles round trip. Did it twice - my first car in 1990 and my current DD a month ago, both bought in the same town.
I did drive 26 hours to see a concert in October 2005 though...
about 300 miles round trip
dont remember the mileage, but from 'bama to maryland one time, and just this spring from 'bama to cincinnati.....
Well it looks like so far I have travelled the farthest ;)
You'd be pretty hard to beat man. Who knows, maybe I'll go to California to buy one one day.:hick:
Then after that the next thing to beat is who can drive non-stop (well except for gas of course) to buy these cars for the longest period of time without food or sleep? because then the number to beat is 30 hours LOL
we'll be running 21 hours this weekend.
w/o sleep, ok. w/o FOOD????
youre a crazy man, baxo.
I don't remember the last car I bought local. I think it was the Ranger.
The gold 84TC - North Carolina
The 80 Z7 - Pennsylvania
The 80 XR-7 - Maryland
The XR4Ti - Illinois
Both Scorpios - Ohio
The 79 Mustang Pace Car - Oklahoma
The Scirocco - Minnesota
i gotta get in on some of this action. thats the furthest ive gone for a car too, even though it wasnt mine ;)
for me the furthest ive driven for a car i purchased was to TN from southern IL.
we'll be stopping in indy for lunch on saturday. where do you recommend?
that number you gave me, is it your home or cell? if it's your cell, do you text?
cell, no texting.
on the west side, there is a hooters on 38th street, and a BW3's in plainfield. plainfield, near 70, there is anything you want basically if your lookin for fast food.
well i guess it depends. if you'll be meeting up with us, we'll go to a place like hooters or something, if not, then we'll just go through the drive through or something.
Yeah well food woulda created poo.. poo woulda created a need to stop. by eliminating the food i eliminated a need to pull over. ;)
Nonsence!
Here ya go, Get Active and Stay Active
