By modern standards everything made in the 80's was boring. Modern family sedans are faster and more powerful, and handle and drive better than Mustangs, Camaros, Firebirds, and even Corvettes from back then. I recently read a magazine article about the new Nissan Altima Coupe that'll do the 1/4 in the high 13's - a six cylinder mainstream FWD puppiesanese coupe that does 13's! And not even marketed as a "sporty" car!
I think the SVT guys weren't dissing T-Birds in particular, they were dissing the 80's in general. And they were right. From a performance standpoint the 70's and 80's flat out sucked, and since SVT was all about performance the 80's were all about sucking.
i think nissan made the maxima's even faster too, id have too check, i dont really keep up with fwd cars.
I still dont know, the aerobirds were a test bed for all the "cool new electronic" of the time. Even today some ppl get excited to see the gagetyiness of those cars... and everyone use to them just gets annoyed but how dim the lighting is in the daytime.
I actually like the fact that most people think of these cars as mundane. It makes parts cheaper. On the negative it makes people more apt to junk them as well so it's a toss up.
