Problem, blue paint on the roof of my white car. Solution roof rack. I know its not performance related but i need a few suggestions on how to approach this problem. I threw my canoe on top of my Cougar for the first time this week considering that the Osage River here in central missouri is way above flood stage and went floating.
I know that these cars could be equipped with a tow package from the dealership but im not too keen on the idea. I like to leave my car at my pull out point on the river so a trailer behind it would be one more thing for someone to steal while im out on the water for up to a week.
Anyone that has pulled with or loaded one of these cars got a suggestion??
I have to say, the cougar did excellent with the canoe on the roof, i just dont want it scratching my paint:cougarsmily:
NO ROOF RACK !!!!!!!!! I really shouldn't have to tell you that. You should already know.Get a small trailer or a pickup. That is all.
Hey from Iberia MO! I used to live in Eldon MO. Any way I towed an 85 toy celica, and a 86 VW GTI with my 84 Turbo coupe. We used a car dolly for both of them. The car did great. I do know what you mean about the stealing while you are gone on the lake. I remember my parents getting stuck in Wal-Mart cause a cold meth lab blew up in the trunk of someones car in the parking lot.
I used to tow a small trailer with either a 4wd ATV or snowmobile (trailer itself weighs about 500 pounds, ATV weighs about 500, snowmobile weighs 600, so about 1000-1200 total) and it did fine. Couldn't even tell the trailer was there except the noise when going over bumps. I wouldn't want to tow much more than that with the stock 10" brakes though...
put a lock in the tounge latch to deter theives. most thieves are impulsive(read: unprepared), and lazy.
Only reason i want to avoid the trailer thing is because i had a dirt bike which was locked to my trailer and my trailer with a tongue lock on it stolen from my apartment parking lot last winter. Throwing a roof rack on is much simpler in the long run.
I know when I lived in that area crime was really bad. The year I moved there the sheriff got kicked out of office. He was letting people sell drugs in the jail, number one meth production county in the state. The state came in a gave him the boot. Like that did much good. Two years later some guys were busted in town with a meth lab in the back of there truck. The next day guess what. The truck with all the evidence was gone. That included the guns the guys had when they got pulled over. So I fully under stand what he is talking about. If you don't believe me look up Miller county MO.
I got my trailor hitch still on mine hauled a mower edger weedeater blower my old 7.5" + my old stall and some springs and more stuff all with my STOCK LX set-up 2 years back if you gotta haul shiznit do it if you got some other car to carry it use it.
THANK THE LORD ANOTHER MISSOURI MEMBER! get some rubber strips to put in between the canoe an the roof maybe get some of that hollow foam pipe insulation an but it over the edges also. just an idea
We don't need no water, let the motherfudger burn?
Jeremy...dude...you HAVE to have a spec sheet somewhere on the aerodynamic drag of a roof rack on these cars... ;)
Good on cougar86-89. either that or get some of those swimming noodle things and carve them out to fit.
With a DL1 (http://"http://www.race-technology.com/dl1_8_936.html"), I could find the difference empirically.
those might be better seeing as they are thicker. they will dry out though an get ruff as time goes on, as would the pipe insulator. so youll need to replace them often. maybe every year. just get them at the end of summer every year.
I have yet to figure out what this has to do with a roof being in fire?
I don't get it!
Thanks for the help guys, i thought of the noodle idea also, it will be my temp fix. As far as Miller county goes, lock it if you love it.
Good luck up there at the lake. If you ever get a chance head over to chances R restaruant over in sunrise beach some of my relatives are buying it. Herd it is nice but haven't been there yet.
