Title: Hello
Post by: Dustin1690 on July 21, 2007, 01:26:00 AM
Well i just joined the site i have been reading for some time decided to join cause i just bought my first car a 1988 Merc Cougar 5.0L AOD for 950cdn all it needs is a new heater core but got a new one from previous owner its got 150,000kms and 50,000 kms on the rebuilt 5.0l lots of power got a 2.73 open diff not bad ill get pics up got hubcaps not the spoked ones but the ones that say cougar on it i plan to put some turbines or 10s and paint code 26 so it looks like a redish maroon pretty nice got some cancer mostly on right side

Well about myself iam 16 will be 17 next month in august got my license back in oct 06 and bought my first truck a 1993 F150 XLT reg cab long box with a 351 5.8L love the truck still got it but hate driving it in winter cause its rusting put on a dual exhaust system its a fun truck so iam apart of Ford Truck Enthusiasts site aka FTE great site as well as this one is for the cougars/t-birds

I recently developed a passion about these cars 83-88 cougars and t-birds saw a 84 cougar 3.8l pretty clean 1700 with 150,000 kms came too late it looked nice too but i found this one they are pretty hard to find now the 88 LS is loaded except power windows and locks ill live without that it runs awesome everything else pretty much works its got the digital dash and everything cool car alright no!!!! granny car thats for sure they werent made for that crowd

But ill be quiet now glad to be aboard and ill hopefully get pics up im pretty happy i didnt expect to bring it home right tonight:cougarsmily: :cougarsmily:

A car without power windows and door locks has to be the furthest thing from "loaded"

Probably 90% of the fox's made had power windows and door locks.  Now my TaRbO! Coupe could be considered loaded.. Everything but leather, and I'm glad for that..  The cloth is perfect but leather by now would be rotted.

I know that Cougar! It was on Kijiji and I emailed the guy about it but he never responded back, I guess it sold though!!

Man we should get together and snap a couple pics of our cars.  Two '88 LSs man that would be cool.

Looks good! The only thing I don't like is the side steps and the single pipe!
Title: Hello
Post by: Dustin1690 on July 22, 2007, 02:16:11 AM
I agree but the stepsides protect it from rusting and chipping away down there like my dad said so thats a good point i guess and single pipe yeah it was DUAL but the previous owner said it was hack job and he didnt wanna do

H-pipe and ya da yada ok yeah well i might change it but would be a pain to do it myself since dont have tools etc plus i dont wanna drop a whole bunch of money for another dual exhaust system and pay the ler guy

I see, the previous owner installed the exhaust system. The original rotted out, but when he replaced it he put a stock replacement on. I bought the car in April for $2,500, with 138,671 kilometers. He also intalled KYB shocks; I still think I got ripped off though. :beatyoass:

I'm doing the HO conversion sometime this summer, a cold air intake (sounds ricey I know), headers and a full 2 1/2 inch exhaust, with either a X or H pipe, I'm going to order those Summit lers.

Awesome man looks like you got a good deal too bad i didnt find one like that with low of kms i guess mine is pretty low 150,000 and then the 5.0l is rebuilt i would love to do the ho conversion would be neat

i need to tackle the rust on the passenger wheel well side and then a panel replacement where did you find you car? i think 2500 for 138,000 kms aint bad at all i paid 950 for mine kind of wish it was more like 850 900 but still im happy

Where did I find my car? In the classifieds section of the paper, it was an old Ukrainian guy selling it. He wanted to keep it and take it down to Vegas or something and then give it to his 14 year old grandson. Apparently the kid loved the car and wanted it as his first; we paid the guy with cash.

We took it for a test drive, just to see if it handled correctly. We took it on a side road and I put my foot down. That was when I fell in love with the car, that low end torque was addicting. I let my dad drive it because after all my opinion doesn't matter, but when he stepped on it he went about 20 kms faster than I did!

Sweet sounds like a cool story it is a nice car right now im pretty mad and dissapointed so the heater core well thanks to fords dumb ass enginering you have to rip the whole dash out like man we started ripping out tonight

and got so far but there was still to much involved they put it in a stupid place and its like a 720.00 repair bill at the shop because it will take them a days labour and stuff so oohh booy its not looking good

Dang! Now he knows our secret! LOL

Welcome to the board Dustin.... that's a sweet looking ride, not bad for a first car!
My son is 16 and  working on what was/is our 84. It will be signed over to him when he graduates, but it's basically his car. He has a lot of work to put into it, but I know he'll appreciate it so much when he's done and has it on the road. (Holy , I'm old enough to be your mom!)

I changed the heater core in mine a few years back. :punchballs: If it ever goes bad again, I will just take the heater hoses off and call it good. Who needs heat? Get a snowmobile suit.

Oh man, come to Sask. in the winter. You'll know why you need heat!

That reminds me someone was talking about their car and how it has every option except for the block heater!
Title: Hello
Post by: atariman on July 27, 2007, 11:13:04 PM
OK ok ok ok, so you need heat up there, then mount an electric heater in the inside and call THAT good. I won't change a heater core again, not because its a pain in the a$$, but I don't know if the brittle dash and all its components can take that kind of abuse again.:barf:

As for knowing places to get it fixed I have none. We only take our cars into the shops for either engine rebuilds, trans rebuilds or exhaust work (mostly custom).

Kind of off topic but have you seen this truck driving around?

It's my dads, just thinking about custom exhaust reminded me of his D.D.

Oh and my names Matt so you don't have to call me 302 anymore. :D
